Full Job Description
Description & Requirements

This role is open to US Bain offices with a strong preference for NYC, Chicago, and Boston offices.

WHO YOU'LL WORK WITH

Global Strategy and Operations, Office of the Worldwide Managing Partner (WMP) supports Bain's global strategy and operations initiatives, including strategy development, review, and deployment; governance priorities and processes; strategic resourcing; and WMP events and communications. The team also coordinates with other departments across Bain, including Finance, Marketing, Commercial Operations, Talent, Technology Services, Regions, and Vector, to ensure alignment of key priorities.

WHERE YOU'LL FIT WITHIN THE TEAM

The Strategic Intelligence Senior Manager sits at the center of how Bain understands the evolution of the consulting industry and its relative position in a fast-evolving competitive landscape. The role shapes Bain's understanding of the external environment in which it competes by producing high-quality analysis, connecting dots across workstreams, and surfacing implications that no single analysis would reveal on its own.

To enable this critical mission, the Senior Manager supports strategic intelligence efforts by delivering insights on the full portfolio of recurring industry and competitor intelligence analytics that inform the firm's strategy and owns WMP/Strategy special projects. Key recurring analyses include competitor intelligence, industry monitoring, innovation sensing, and signpost reviews [see below].

The Senior Manager reports to the Director, Global Strategy & Operations, Office of the WMP, and will work closely with the Bain Corporate Strategy Operating Partner and rotating case team, as well as the Chief of Staff to WMP. This role supports development of materials and insights for conversations with the WMP, Global Operating Committee, Board of Directors and other senior firm leaders. The role guides the Global Strategy & Operations Center of Excellence team, based in India, that supports analytics execution.

An ideal candidate for this role has strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to support analysis of strategic questions, helping to structure problems and develop insights from imperfect data. They do not simply produce accurate and defensible estimates; they assemble, augment, and frame findings so senior leaders walk away with a clear point of view. They exercise sound business judgment to decode noise and complexity in market and competitor intelligence, manage a broad portfolio of workstreams with different cadences, stakeholder sets, and data sources comfortably, and continuously push themselves and the team to uncover critical findings and to innovate ways to find higher-quality answers faster and smarter. They proactively contribute to team morale, learning, and sense of spirit; seek opportunities for PD development and team sustainability; and contribute to Bain 'beyond the core team' e.g., via office initiatives, diversity groups, other initiatives.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Build Competitor Intelligence ~40%

  • Analyze multi-year strategic direction, financial performance (revenues, productivity, and partner economics), capacity by geo & practice, delivery model, M&A and strategic investment, and operating model of key competitors
  • Develop a point of view on where competitors are placing strategic bets relative to Bain, as key inputs to our strategy and investment agenda discussions

Monitor Industry Evolution ~15%

  • Track the growth of the overall consulting industry, segments, and key players over time, develop an understanding of their growth drivers, and analyze Bain's relative position in the industry and strategic implications for Bain
  • Develop a point of view on how the industry landscape is evolving, including consolidation and emerging segments, and generate insights to inform Bain's strategy

Conduct Innovation Sensing 15%

  • Support the annual scan of new business models in the consulting industry via monitoring M&A activity, tech investments, and strategic partnerships across key competitors, as well as interviewing innovation experts and frontier partners
  • Develop a point of view to connect the latest evolution of the innovation landscape to strategic implications for Bain before our competitors do

Establish and Review Signposts ~15%

  • Establish a cadence for reviewing competitive signposts that would signal a need to revisit Bain's strategic assumptions
  • Own the semiannual Signpost Review process by engaging relevant data owners, interpreting data through the lens of Bain's strategy and operations, identifying signals, and framing findings for management review

Deliver Special Projects ~15%

  • Scope strategy- and WMP operations-related special projects, develop the Answer First, pressure-test recommendations, and engage relevant stakeholders to move the work forward
