How will you make an impact in this role?

The Banking Credit & Fraud Risk team leads the first line of defense for credit and fraud risk across non-card banking products and channels. This individual contributor role will support the end-to-end strategy, control design, monitoring, and continuous optimization of onboarding identity theft controls while balancing fraud prevention, customer experience, regulatory expectations, and operational effectiveness.

  • Analyze onboarding fraud trends, emerging identity theft patterns, and control performance to identify actionable strategy opportunities.

  • Translate fraud insights into clear business requirements, risk rules, operating procedures, and control enhancements.

  • Partner with Product, Technology, Compliance, Servicing, Operations, and second line risk teams to deliver effective and compliant fraud controls.

  • Monitor key fraud, customer experience, and operational metrics to ensure strategies remain effective and within risk appetite.

  • Support governance routines, documentation, issue identification, and timely escalation of emerging risks or control gaps.

  • Share insights and best practices across CFR and partner teams to strengthen identity theft risk management across the enterprise.

  • To deliver these outcomes, this colleague will work independently and partner closely with Product, Compliance, Operational Excellence, Enterprise Banking Services, Technology, Servicing, and other stakeholder teams.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Own and optimize identity theft / third-party fraud risk strategies for banking onboarding journeys, balancing fraud mitigation, customer experience, operational capacity, and regulatory expectations.

  • Develop, maintain, and monitor fraud risk controls, rules, strategies, and decisioning requirements across in-scope banking products.

  • Use data-driven analysis to identify emerging fraud trends, evaluate strategy effectiveness, quantify impacts, and recommend control enhancements.

  • Define and track daily, weekly, and monthly KPIs/KRIs for fraud coverage, pend rates, approval outcomes, disruption rates, losses, and operational performance.

  • Partner with Product, Technology, Compliance, Legal, Servicing, Operational Excellence, and second line risk teams to translate risk needs into executable capabilities and procedures.

  • Support operating procedure updates for risk strategy and back-office review teams to improve financial outcomes, compliance adherence, customer experience, and operational consistency.

  • Prepare clear, concise updates for leadership on emerging fraud themes, strategy performance, residual risk areas, and recommended actions.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience in fraud risk management, risk strategy, control management, banking, lending, or a related risk discipline.

  • 2+ years of experience working with data, analytics, strategy performance monitoring, or analytical project execution.

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent work experience.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to synthesize large volumes of data and develop practical recommendations in complex, ambiguous environments.

  • Ability to independently manage priorities, drive execution, and deliver high-quality work in a fast-paced, results-driven environment.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex risk issues clearly and influence cross-functional partners.

  • High attention to detail and strong judgment in assessing risk, control effectiveness, customer impact, and governance requirements.

  • Technical acumen with experience using SQL, Python, Hive, Big Data tools, automation, visualization, or similar analytical tools.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Business, Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

  • Experience with identity theft, synthetic identity, application fraud, account takeover, onboarding controls, or banking fraud typologies.

  • Experience developing or optimizing fraud decisioning strategies, risk rules, control frameworks, or operating procedures.

  • Experience partnering with Product, Technology, Compliance, Legal, Operations, Servicing, or second line risk teams to deliver cross-functional risk capabilities.
