What is the opportunity?

Senior Manager, HR Operational Risk Management is responsible for leading the management and execution of Operational Risk processes within RBC's HR, Brand, Marketing, and Corporate Citizenship (HR-BMCC) Function. In this role you will lead the execution of Operational Risk processes ensuring adherence to RBC Risk Management Policies and Standards. You will work to develop strategic solutions to address enhancements in Risk Management, providing leadership to the team in managing Operational Risk exposures.

Primary Responsibilities:

What will you do?
  • Lead the execution of the Operational Risk Management program, in accordance with Enterprise policies and standards. Risk Management activities include, risk and control identification and assessment, risk event data collection and analysis, monitoring of key risk indicators and analysis of emerging risk exposures.
  • Execute Risk & Control Self-Assessment (RCSA) practices in alignment with established procedures and processes.
  • Reporting to senior leadership on topics of Operational Risk Management, enhancing their ability to anticipate and manage operational risk effectively.
  • Provide recommendations for risk mitigation, developing action plans and leveraging business knowledge to support conclusions on risk exposures.
  • Participate in transformational projects by leading change initiative risk assessments, providing expert advice on risk impact associated with prospective change.
  • Ensure embedded responsibility, ownership, and awareness of risk accountability amongst HR-BMCC leadership and downward reporting lines.
  • Act as a key integration point between first line HR-BMCC and second line Groups Risk Management and Risk Area Centres of Governance.
  • Responsible for the implementation of HR-BMCC's Culture, Conduct & Reputation Risks program in alignment with enterprise framework.
  • Oversee HR-BMCC's Business Continuity Management program, ensuring Business Continuity Plans are documented and maintained across the HR-BMCC Function, to be leveraged upon incident occurrence.


Position Specifications:

What do you need to succeed?

Must Have:
  • Strong knowledge of RBC's policies and procedures specific to Group Risk Management and other Risk Area Centres of Governance.
  • Relevant Operational Risk Management experience, delivering risk-management specific programs.
  • Maturity level and skill/judgement to be able to deal effectively with senior leaders within HR.
  • Ability to assess and respond quickly to change and priorities with a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Comprehensive presentation, advocacy, and communication (verbal and written) skills.
  • Analytical (qualitative and quantitative) and problem-solving skills with focus on attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal skills, professionalism, and stakeholder relationship management.


Nice to Have:
  • Working knowledge of Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) solutions at RBC (e.g., Archer, EIM, ORMS).
  • Experience as a People Manager, overseeing and directing a team of reports.
