Purpose

As part of the International & Global Transaction Banking Communications (IGTB) team at Scotiabank, the Senior Manager, Communications plays a key role in leading the end-to-end process for executive-level communications strategies (including conceptualization, content development, delivery/distribution, and measuring success), serving as a trusted advisor to senior leaders while ensuring alignment with Global Corporate Affairs, all-Bank and IGTB strategic priorities. The role is responsible for designing and implementing internal and external communications that advance business objectives and culture, and strengthen employee engagement across our international footprint, by:

  • Providing counsel on messaging, employee engagement, leadership communications, and communications strategies to senior executives.
  • Managing complex communications initiatives with a high degree of project management discipline, ensuring timely execution, clear governance, stakeholder alignment, and measurable results.
  • Being a trusted advisor to the leadership team and working closely with business partners, senior management, and other key stakeholders.
  • Producing, coordinating, and executing on various internal communications including announcements, events, presentations, videos, and online and social content, as well as managing owned platforms.
  • Developing and executing integrated executive communication strategies aligned with business objectives and the Bank's vision, while ensuring measurable outcomes and impact.
  • Supporting external communication requirements, including managing inbound media inquiries, obtaining approvals, developing briefs, and supporting proactive media opportunities to support International Banking while ensuring strong alignment to enterprise priorities.
  • Ensuring strategic alignment across our global communications channels and calendars.
  • Representing IGTB communications on various working teams and at cross-functional status meetings.
  • Building strong partnerships across business lines, Global Corporate Affairs, and cross-functional teams to drive consistent and impactful communications.


Contributes to the effective operation of the IGTB Communications team by:
  • Supporting a high-performance environment that attracts, retains, develops and motivates the team.
  • Acting as a trusted advisor and strategic partner to senior business leaders, key partners and communications leaders across the Bank.
  • Fostering strong relationships with stakeholders to further the Bank's communications objectives.
  • Leveraging feedback from formal and informal channels to deliver strong and aligned communications.
  • Staying current and implementing communications best practices.
  • Actively sharing knowledge and experience to enhance the development of all team members.
  • Fostering a culture that fosters new ideas, effective challenge, and promotes open and honest communication.
  • Actively participating and contributing to touch bases and team meetings, encouraging the generation of new ideas and approaches, and recommending process improvements.
  • Understands how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.

The Senior Manager will support IGTB key strategic priorities, as well as foster employee engagement across a number of communications channels. This includes a lead role in the development, project management and oversight of multiple internal and external communications initiatives of significant complexity. This role supports executive communications, strategic initiatives, speech writing, executive presentations, town halls, internal and external communications, internal video production, newsletters, infographics, engagement surveys, and various multinational employee engagement campaigns. This role requires a passionate storyteller and content creator with the ability to connect the dots and tell meaningful stories through simple and digestible content.

In addition, the role requires strong executive communications expertise, with the ability to advise senior leaders, anticipate communications needs, develop strategic narratives, and translate complex business priorities into clear, compelling, and audience-focused content.

The successful candidate will demonstrate judgment in balancing competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

The role demands a high level of collaboration across functions, markets, and business lines, while maintaining a relentless focus on quality, execution excellence, and attention to detail.

Education / Experience / Other Information

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in communications, journalism or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 6-8 years working experience in a corporate communications or related industry.
  • Advanced written and verbal proficiency in English and Spanish, with the ability to develop, edit, and review executive-level communications in both languages.
  • Expert communications skills with exceptional writing abilities - a sharp writer, detail-oriented, creative and a superb editor - and the ability to transform complex subjects into meaningful stories. Ability to ask targeted questions to identify connections across stories.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting executive communications, including leadership messaging, speeches, presentations, town halls, and employee engagement initiatives.
  • Solid strategic thinking skills, with excellent attention to detail, and high-level accountability for the quality and timely completion of projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive internal and external engagement across a large employee base and amongst a range of stakeholders.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship management skills, comfortable communicating directly with senior executives.
  • Proven project management and multi-tasking skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects at once.
  • Strategic capability to develop and implement innovative and relevant communications dealing with diverse issues and subjects.
  • Independent, excellent motivator and team player.
  • Communications experience in a complex, dynamic, knowledge-based environment.
  • Flexible and willing to take on new challenges as they present themselves.
  • Fluency in Spanish.
  • Preferred skills: experience developing visual and engaging content in Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, and other digital platforms.
