Description

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

We are looking for a Senior Manager, E nergy S tra tegy & Financial Analysis to join our Grid & Energy Services team to evaluate the financial viability and s tra tegic value of new energy initiatives- which include battery projects, enterprise customer-focused microgrids and clean energy platform services . The ideal candidate wil l combine robust financial modeling skills with deep market understanding and analytical rigor to support go-to-market s tra tegy, s tra tegic planning, and execution. This position will also support in-depth market intelligence efforts, competitive benchmarking, and executive reporting to inform key business decisions.

This position will be remote with an assumption of relocation to Houston, Texas in 2027 when our office officially opens.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Build and maintain investment-grade financial models for PV+ESS, ESS-only, and microgrid projects serving C&I and enterprise customers, with a focus on IRR, NPV, cash flow, and break-even analyses.


  • Conduct end-to-end economic and financial evaluations for distributed battery deployments and data center-related clean energy services, directly supporting executive investment decisions.


  • Design and evaluate utility-facing VPP program business models, including offtaker structures and financing concepts, and assess their financial viability.


  • Develop incentive program frameworks by analyzing optimal customer compensation levels to balance program economics and market competitiveness.


  • Support pro forma analyses for new offerings, contributing directly to go-to-market strategy and commercialization efforts.


  • Conduct in-depth market research on DER and grid services markets, emerging business models, ISO market evolution, and the competitive landscape.


  • Analyze trends across CAISO, ERCOT, PJM, ISO-NE, and NYISO markets to inform pricing, market participation, and development strategies.


  • Create and present executive-level reports, investment memos, and strategic recommendation decks for internal and external stakeholders.


  • Collaborate cross-functionally with business development, operations, legal, and finance teams to translate financial modeling and strategic insights into actionable business decisions.


  • Support long-term planning, strategic goal setting, and corporate development initiatives aligned with the G&ES roadmap.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance , Economics, Engineering, Energy Systems, or a related field


  • 5- 10 years of experience in financial modeling, business case analysis, or s tra tegic planning in clean energy, DER, energy storage, or utility-scale energy services


  • Proven end-to-end experience in C&I scale battery project economics, simulation, and modeling that directly influenced investment or go/no-go decisions


  • Strong understanding of U.S. energy markets, including ISO-level market mechanisms across CAISO, ERCOT, PJM, ISO-NE, and NYISO and tra ditional vertically integrated utilities


  • Demons tra ted ability to conduct independent and in-depth market research and competitor benchmarking


  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with a strong ability to prepare executive-level s tra tegic presentations and business reports


  • Strong logical reasoning, critical thinking, and problem-solving capabilities


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Prior experience in DER monetization, utility program development, and energy incentive design


  • Familiarity with data analysis tools such as SQL or Power BI


  • Experience in investment due diligence or execution related to equity investments, project finance, or M&A is a strong plus


  • Background in management consulting or strategic investment roles highly valued


  • Ability to travel 10% or as needed


COMPENSATION:

In accordance with applicable pay transparency laws, the anticipated annual base salary for this position is:

  • Zone 1 (Bay Area, NYC): $164,400 - $205,400


  • Zone 2 (CA, NJ, NY): $150,700 - $188,300


  • Zone 3 (All Others): $137,000 - $171,200


The applicable salary range is based on the employee's primary work location. Individual compensation will be determined based on qualifications, relevant experience, education, skills, internal equity, and other business-related factors.
