Full Job Description

In this role, you will serve as a trusted advisor to executives, helping shape compensation strategies that support evolving business needs while balancing market competitiveness, internal equity, risk, and Vanguard's compensation philosophy. You'll lead a divisional compensation consulting team whose consultants are aligned to specific business divisions and partner closely with senior HR and business leaders. The team is responsible for compensation consulting, market pricing, pay program design and implementation, job architecture, role evaluations, and annual compensation programs across Vanguard.

The role combines strategic advisory work, people leadership, and problem solving. You will work closely with leaders navigating organizational change, talent challenges, and business growth, helping them navigate complex talent and rewards challenges where there may not be a clear precedent or established playbook. Success requires strong business acumen, executive presence, relationship management skills, analytical ability, strategic thinking, sound judgment, and the ability to influence outcomes across a wide range of stakeholders.

This role is best suited for an experienced compensation leader with a track record of advising senior executives, leading teams, and developing compensation strategies in a complex organization. Financial services industry experience is strongly preferred.

As a Compensation Senior Leader, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Partner directly with senior executives, HR Business Partners, and business leaders on compensation strategy, talent decisions, and organizational changes.
  • Lead and develop a team of divisional compensation consultants, strengthening consulting capabilities, business acumen, stakeholder management skills, and overall partnership effectiveness.
  • Design and deliver compensation strategies related to market competitiveness, job architecture, pay governance, talent attraction, and retention.
  • Advise leaders through organizational transformations, evolving talent needs, and complex business challenges where there may not be an established playbook.
  • Lead analyses and recommendations that balance business strategy, market data, internal equity, and financial considerations.
  • Partner across Total Rewards, HR, Talent Acquisition, Finance, and business leadership teams to deliver integrated solutions that support Vanguard's workforce and business objectives.
  • Influence the evolution of Vanguard's compensation programs, consulting practices, and talent strategies.
  • Hire, evaluate, and supervise crew. Provide guidance and training as necessary to develop crew. Set performance standards, review performance, and make informed compensation decisions in accordance with all applicable Human Resources policies and procedures.
  • Develop goals and monitor trends for Vanguard's compensation programs, policies and procedures.
  • Drive the design of compensation programs that support the organization's strategic objectives and meet all legal requirements.
  • Provide overall direction for job evaluations, salary surveys, analytical reports, HRIS data maintenance, compensation counseling, and other compensation related activities.
  • Build strong working partnerships with other HR teams, the financial department, business departments and senior management to ensure the effective implementation of compensation policies.
  • Coach and contribute to the development of compensation analysts and consultants.
  • Participate in special projects and perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Eight years related work experience, with at least Three years of compensation experience. Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of training and experience. Graduate degree preferred.
  • Progress toward CCP preferred.
