Position OverviewThe Senior Manager-Database Platforms leads strategy, operations, and governance for a large, heterogeneous enterprise database estate supporting mission-critical manufacturing workloads.
Accountable for reliability, availability, security, compliance, and cost management across 3,000+ databases, this leader directs a blended on-shore/off-shore DBA organization and partners closely with Infrastructure, Security, Architecture, Application Owners, and vendors to keep platforms current (N-2), resilient (Zone A/Zone B), and audit-ready.
Scope & Scale:
- Enterprise database estate: 3,000+ databases across production and non-production environments
- Team leadership: 25+ (blended on-shore/off-shore) DBAs providing 24x7 support and on-call coverage
- Platforms: SQL Server, Oracle (incl. Apps/EBS), Teradata, DB2 (z/OS & LUW), MongoDB, MariaDB, Hadoop/IMS/RDB (as applicable), plus Control-M, Grid Infrastructure, SolarWinds, SOA, DataStage, Azure
Responsibilities
- Lead multi-platform DBA operations and governance for availability, resiliency, and performance (Zone A/Zone B, RTO/RPO)
- Drive N-2 lifecycle currency: roadmaps, upgrades, patch governance, and vulnerability remediation
- Own backup/recovery standards, restore validation, and recovery testing
- Enforce compatibility standards and partner with application/middleware owners to prevent unsupported configurations
- Ensure licensing compliance, audit readiness, and vendor governance across major DB vendors
- Manage budget, cost optimization, major incident response, and stakeholder communications
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree and at least 9 years of database administration experience
- At least 2 years of lead experience

- Master's degree and at least 5 years of database administration experience
- At least 2 years of lead experience

- At least 12 years of database administration experience
- At least 2 years of lead experience

Desired Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- Experience supporting manufacturing enterprise workloads (ERP, supply chain, plant systems, analytics) with high availability and strict maintenance windows.
- Familiarity with ITIL-based service management and metrics-driven operations; relevant certifications a plus (e.g., ITIL, Microsoft, Oracle, IBM).
- Experience implementing automation and standardization (Infrastructure as Code concepts, scripting, self-service provisioning, policy-based configuration).
- Experience with modern observability/monitoring platforms and capacity/performance engineering at enterprise scale.
- Exposure to hybrid and/or cloud database services and migration patterns (where applicable to enterprise strategy).
