About the Job

As the Senior Manager of our Data Platforms team, you will lead a highly technical group responsible for the reliability, performance, and scalability of our core data infrastructure. You will define long-term technical strategies, especially for database management in the Cloud, and drive operational excellence while ensuring our databases remain robust and secure. By fostering a culture of collaboration and mentorship, you will empower your team to implement modern deployment practices and advanced database infrastructure automation. This role is pivotal in enabling our organization's success by optimizing the systems that power our product features and data-driven decisions.

Responsibilities
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of database administrators and data engineers to foster a culture of operational excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee the performance, maintenance, and scaling of a heterogeneous data environment, including PostgreSQL, SQL Server, MongoDB, Redis, and OpenSearch.
  • Define and execute a comprehensive Cloud and containerization strategies, utilizing technologies like Docker and Kubernetes to ensure consistent, scalable database deployments.
  • Drive the adoption of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles, leveraging proficiency in Linux and Puppet to automate the configuration and management of data infrastructure.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams, including software development and data engineering, to support the implementation of reliable data pipelines and robust ETL/ELT processes.
  • Ensure high availability and disaster recovery standards by implementing rigorous security best practices across all data systems.

Minimum Qualifications
  • 7+ years of experience in database administration, data engineering, or a related technical field, with at least 3 years in a leadership or management capacity.
  • Extensive experience managing, tuning, and scaling production environments for PostgreSQL, SQL Server, MongoDB, Redis, or OpenSearch.
  • Proven track record of managing mission-critical data stores in public Cloud environments, such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
  • Expert-level proficiency in Linux operating systems and infrastructure automation tools like Puppet.
  • Demonstrated ability to design, build, and maintain complex data pipelines and data warehouse solutions.
  • Experience managing a distributed team located in various geographic locations.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong experience managing databases in the Cloud.
  • Prior experience running databases in containerized environments using Docker or Kubernetes.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages (such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell) to automate administrative tasks and monitoring.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Experience in defining long-term technical architecture strategies that align with business growth and scalability goals.

The expected range of compensation for this position based in Toronto, Canada, including commission and/or bonuses is $165,000 - $180,000 CAD. There are a variety of factors that go into determining a compensation range, including but not limited to external market benchmark data, geographic location, and years of experience sought/required.
