ABOUT THE ROLE

The Senior Manager, Content serves a critical role on the Communications & Content team working in the Marketing & Communications department, supporting fundraising, communications and brand marketing efforts. This position reports to the Director, Content.

BCRF is a trusted source for the latest news in breast cancer research and evidence-based educational content about the disease. Between the Progress Report (BCRF's blog) and the About Breast Cancer microsite, we've seen incredible growth especially in organic search. The Content team surfaces up and produces stories and collateral that are harnessed by departments across the organization to raise awareness of our mission, maintain BCRF's stellar reputation, and inspire donations.

The Senior Manager, Content joins the team at a pivotal time, when the organization is growing and has a greater need to share and amplify BCRF-supported research to fuel critical fundraising and awareness efforts. The senior manager is responsible for executing BCRF's organic search strategy and translating strategic priorities into actionable content recommendations, optimization plans, and measurable performance improvements..

Further, as a consummate editor and writer, the senior manager of content is BCRF's lead content operator-responsible for executing SEO and AI-informed content strategies, producing high-performing research and fundraising content, managing performance analytics and vendors, and translating audience insights into measurable growth in awareness, engagement, and fundraising outcomes.

This position is based in New York, New York. BCRF currently requires staff to work onsite a minimum of three days per week.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Serve as day-to-day lead for fundraising content in partnership with digital fundraising agency partners to develop, edit, optimize, and measure content that supports donor acquisition, engagement, retention, and revenue growth.
  • Develop and optimize website, email, and educational content that supports donor acquisition and conversion goals.
  • Identify opportunities to connect high-performing research and educational content to fundraising pathways and supporter engagement journeys.
  • Partner with Digital Fundraising to test and refine content approaches that improve engagement, lead generation, and donation performance.
  • Monitor and report on content-driven fundraising KPIs, including traffic-to-donor conversion opportunities.
  • Works with Director, Content to write and edit content about BCRF-supported research and breast cancer inclusive of breaking news in breast cancer research for BCRF's owned channels.
  • Execute BCRF's SEO and generative search optimization roadmap across website and content properties. Serve as point person for external SEO vendors, managing deliverables, timelines, and performance benchmarks in alignment with Director-level strategy.
  • Write, produce, update, and edit SEO-driven content. Stays relevant on SEO best practices and optimizations to keep BCRF competitive on search.
  • Track and report on SEO and website performance metrics including traffic growth, rankings, engagement, conversions, and content effectiveness.
  • Produce regular performance readouts for the Director, Content and Marketing & Communications leadership to inform strategy, prioritization, and resourcing
  • Partners closely with the Director, Content to ensure SEO execution supports broader content strategy, campaigns, and organizational messaging
  • Under direction of the Director, Content, produces a pipeline of timely, relevant content across BCRF's digital and social platforms to support team and organizational brand awareness and revenue goals
  • Evaluate and leverage AI-powered tools to support content research, ideation, optimization, workflow efficiency, and audience insights while maintaining rigorous editorial and scientific standards.
  • Stay current on developments in generative AI, search behavior, and content discovery trends, identifying opportunities and risks relevant to BCRF's digital presence.
  • Support Senior Social Media Manager as needed
  • Proofreads, edits, and fact-checks other content as needed

In addition, you have the following qualifications and experience:
  • A bachelor's degree or higher in journalism, English, scientific communications, or a related field
  • A minimum of five years of experience working as an assigning editor or writer at a news outlet, magazine, or website, or in an editorial role at a nonprofit, college, university, or similar
  • SEO/LLM experience is a must.
  • Excellent writing, editing, fact-checking, and proofreading skills
  • Thorough research and analytical skills
  • Extremely detail-oriented with project management skills and experience
  • Experience assigning content to writers, offering constructive feedback and edits, and seeing content through to the finish line
  • Ability to nimbly respond to breaking news and juggle multiple deadlines at one time
  • Ability to gracefully take feedback and edits from both editors and non-editors
  • Familiarity with AI-powered content, research, analytics, and SEO tools and an understanding of how generative AI is changing content discovery and search behavior.
  • Ability to thoughtfully incorporate AI-enabled workflows while maintaining editorial quality, fact-checking rigor, and brand standards.

Travel

This role may require travel 1-2 times per year to attend scientific conferences or BCRF events.

Compensation and Benefits:

This is a full-time exempt role. The salary range for this role is $80,000 - 90,000. Our compensation packages include an exceptional benefits package focusing on employee physical, mental and financial wellness. More specifically we offer:
