MNP's Valuations and Litigation Support practice works with clients and counsel across a wide range of valuation and dispute matters, providing objective, well-supported conclusions of value and support throughout the dispute process. Litigation support includes commercial matters (e.g., breach of contract, shareholder disputes) personal matters (e.g., family law, estate disputes), and forensic accounting investigations (e.g., asset misappropriation and financial irregularities). Responsibilities- Lead financial, economic, accounting and industry research to support business valuation, damages quantification and forensic accounting analyses
- Interpret complex financial and non-financial data and develop clear, practical and defensible conclusions
- Lead the preparation and refinement of financial models for business valuations, damages quantification and forensic accounting engagements
- Prepare and review cash flows analyses, valuation models, projections, forecasts and other technical analyses
- Draft and review high-quality expert reports and assist in preparing critique reports responding to opposing experts
- Lead interactions with client management, stakeholders, legal counsel, financial advisors and other professionals
- Act as a key point of contact for clients and legal counsel, providing timely updates, practical guidance and clear communication throughout the engagement
- Support preparation for trials, mediations, arbitrations and other dispute-resolution processes
- Manage multiple concurrent engagements with competing priorities and deadlines
- Design and develop high-quality deliverables including engagement letters, reports, presentations, and correspondence
- Manage engagement planning and scheduling as well as project financials (budgets, WIP, timely billing, collection, variance recognition)
- Identify innovative ways to deliver added value to clients; ensure client needs are met and relationships grow and develop
- Maintain high quality control and apply specialized knowledge to anticipate, identify and address issues or key risks relevant to each engagement
- Network in the local business community, consider business development opportunities and lead the preparation and delivery of competitive proposals to meet client needs
- Mentor, motivate and coach team members towards professional and personal development by setting clear expectations, providing feedback and conducting performance reviews
- Contribute to strategic and operational planning related to client and practice management, as well as the development of new ideas and approaches to improve work processes
- Maintain flexibility to travel, as necessary
Skills and Experience- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related discipline
- CPA designation is an asset
- 8+ years of experience in valuations, damages quantification, and/or forensic accounting
- Experience at a national accounting firm is an asset
- CBV or CFA designation (or near completion), or willingness to enroll in one of the programs
- Proven financial modeling skills and hands on experience with complex analyses
- Background in litigation support and expert report drafting
- Ability to quickly understand unfamiliar industries and develop practical, creative solutions
- Demonstrated ability to manage competing deadlines and lead multiple files simultaneously
- Excellent listening, communication, and presentation skills
- Solid proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
