About the Position

The Senior Manager, Business Development collaborates with the Director, Client Development and the firm's attorneys to develop and implement the marketing and business development strategy and tactics for the Land Use, Environmental & Natural Resources (LUENR) and Bankruptcy, Receiverships & Creditors' Remedies practices, as well as the Construction and Digital Infrastructure groups. The Manager, Business Development proactively supports firmwide client service and client development initiatives by partnering with the other team members to develop and execute business development strategies, provide day-to-day support and strategic guidance that advances business development goals and firm priorities , and enhance cross-selling opportunities for assigned groups. This position is currently a hybrid role.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with assigned departments and practice groups to create and implement marketing strategies and programs in support of the firm's strategic initiatives
  • Support attorneys in writing and preparing client presentation materials, RFPs, and new business proposals
  • Initiate, develop, and provide hands-on support for business development plans, programs, and budget approvals
  • Partner with Practice Group leaders and other partners to secure and develop their market strategies and plans
  • Collaborate with lawyers on their business development efforts around conferences, sponsorships, seminars, speaking engagements, and events related to the applicable practice groups
  • Conduct and manage research of prospective targets, industries, markets, competitors, and conflicts via firm-wide resources, and online databases
  • Draft and manage practice descriptions, key materials, and representative experience for assigned practices
  • Identify professional organizations, industry associations, educational institutions that offer leadership positions, speaking opportunities, and sources of referral
  • Provide leadership and mentoring to more junior members of the team.
  • Other duties and special projects, as assigned.

Education and/or Experience:

Bachelor's degree required in Marketing, Business Administration, Liberal Arts or related field. 8-10 years of business development experience in a law firm or professional service industry.

Qualifications:
  • Strong organizational skills and an ability to prioritize and complete simultaneous projects with minimal supervision, consistently meeting short and long-term deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write business communications and effectively present information and respond to inquiries from all levels of professional and support staff, clients, associations, and vendors.
  • Must be a professional, independent thinker with strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to offer constructive opinions and creative solutions.
  • Ability to work within a complex and multifaceted business environment, thrives in a fast-paced, fluctuating environment and approach projects with a flexible and adaptable mindset.
  • Advanced knowledge of Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel required.
  • Must be outgoing and externally focused: desire to connect with attorneys and clients to promote the firm and its brand.
  • Ability to work with and guide/educate attorneys in development of primary marketing and business development tools.
  • Proven creativity, conceptual skills development and resourcefulness, as well as demonstrated experience effecting organizational initiative and vision.
  • Possesses the ability to gauge and act on effectiveness of new and existing initiatives through surveys, statistical analyses, and other tools.

Compensation

Allen Matkins is an Equal Opportunity Employer and offers a competitive compensation & benefits package. The anticipated base salary range for this full-time role is $130,000.00 - $180,000.00 per year. Actual salary will depend upon a number of factors, including, but not limited to, relevant experience, job-related skills, qualifications, and location.

The base salary range displayed on the job posting reflects the estimated range for new hire salaries for the position. The actual offered base salary will be determined by work location and additional factors, including, but not limited to, relevant experience, job-related skills and qualifications. The pay range is subject to change at any time dependent on a variety of internal and external business factors.
