Position Summary:

ultrainnovative - Tackle rare and dynamic challenges

The Senior Litigation Paralegal, eDiscovery & AI will provide sophisticated operational support for Ultragenyx's litigation portfolio. This individual will manage legal holds, document preservation and collection, eDiscovery vendors, budgets, case information, and document productions. The role will also evaluate legal-hold and AI-enabled eDiscovery tools and develop scalable workflows that reduce risk, cost, and reliance on outside resources.
Work Model:

Flex: This role will typically require onsite work 2-3 days each week, or more depending on business needs. In many locations, the business will set certain days each week that Flex employees are required to be onsite.
Responsibilities:
  • Own the legal-hold lifecycle, including drafting and issuing notices, maintaining custodian and matter records, tracking acknowledgments, sending reminders, conducting periodic reviews, and releasing holds.
  • Coordinate defensible preservation and collection of electronically stored information, including conducting custodial interviews to identify data sources and using Microsoft Purview or similar platforms.
  • Partner with IT, Security, business stakeholders, outside counsel, and vendors to identify custodians, systems, data sources, and appropriate collection methods.
  • Manage eDiscovery projects across multiple matters, including data collection, processing, review coordination, productions, timelines, quality control, and documentation.
  • Evaluate eDiscovery vendors and manage vendor performance, budgets, invoices, timelines, and service delivery while coordinating with law firms using their preferred review platforms.
  • Maintain accurate case trackers, chronologies, discovery metrics, production records, deadlines, budgets, and status reports.
  • Develop and maintain consistent processes, playbooks, and documentation for legal holds, collections, productions, and eDiscovery vendor management.
  • Evaluate legal-hold software and lead implementation if Ultragenyx selects a dedicated platform.
  • Evaluate AI-enabled eDiscovery tools and develop repeatable internal AI workflows that improve efficiency while protecting confidentiality, privilege, and information security.
  • Support deposition preparation and occasionally attend witness interviews, depositions, hearings, and trials.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree required; paralegal certificate preferred.
  • 8+ years of paralegal, litigation-support, or related experience, including at least 4 years of direct eDiscovery experience.
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Purview or a similar preservation and collection platform required.
  • Strong knowledge of the eDiscovery lifecycle: identification, preservation, collection, processing, review, and production.
  • Experience managing legal holds, complex document collections, eDiscovery vendors, budgets, invoices, and concurrent litigation matters.
  • Experience with document productions, litigation chronologies, case tracking, and data reporting.
  • Experience evaluating or implementing AI-enabled eDiscovery, document-review, case-analysis, and legal-workflow tools preferred; strong interest and demonstrated aptitude required. Familiarity with platforms such as Relativity aiR, Everlaw AI, DISCO Cecilia AI, Harvey, Legora, CoCounsel, or similar tools is a plus.
  • Biotechnology, pharmaceutical, life-sciences, or other regulated-industry experience preferred.
  • Excellent project-management, organizational, analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Sound judgment and ability to handle privileged, confidential, and sensitive information.
  • Collaborative; able to build effective relationships across Legal, IT, Security, business functions, law firms, and vendors.
  • Occasional travel required.

This range reflects the characteristics of the job, such as required skills and qualifications and is based on the office location noted in this job posting. The range may also be adjusted based on applicant's geographic location.

This position is eligible for annual bonus and equity incentives. Actual individual pay is determined by demonstrated experience and internal equity alignment.

Pay Range

$121,100-$149,600 USD
