We are seeking an experienced Senior Linux Systems Administrator to join our enterprise infrastructure team supporting large-scale production environments. This role is responsible for providing operational support for both on-premises and cloud-based (AWS and Azure) data centers, ensuring the availability, security, and performance of mission-critical systems.
The successful candidate will be responsible for system image creation, server provisioning, patch management, reporting, documentation and SOP development, application integration, scripting and automation, advanced system configuration, troubleshooting, and production support while meeting established Service Level Agreements (SLAs). This position also requires participation in a 24/7 on-call rotation.
Work Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM ET, with participation in a 24/7 on-call schedule.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree with 8 years of relevant experience, or 12 years of experience with a high school diploma.
- Extensive experience administering Linux systems in large-scale production environments.
- Proven ability to manage escalated incidents, critical production issues, and major infrastructure changes.
- Experience with reporting, performance dashboards, capacity planning, vendor management, and technical documentation.
- Experience designing, migrating, and upgrading enterprise Linux infrastructure.
- Advanced administration of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and Oracle Linux (OEL), including Red Hat Satellite/Capsule, Ansible Automation Platform (Tower), Git, systemd, kernel tuning, networking, and storage management (LVM/LUKS).
- Experience managing Linux workloads and patching across hybrid environments, including AWS, Azure, and VMware.
- Strong knowledge of ServiceNow (or similar ITSM platforms), Change and Incident Management, and alerting tools such as GoAlert.
- Experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Ubuntu, Veritas InfoScale (VCS/VxVM/VxFS), OpenShift, OCFS2, Linux build automation, recovery processes, and Ansible Automation Platform.
- Strong understanding of server backup, vulnerability management, server hardening, OSCAP compliance, and enterprise security tools such as Splunk and Ivanti.
- Experience with AWS and Azure cloud services, VMware vSphere (ESXi/vCenter), Microsoft Active Directory, Group Policy, Centrify, NetApp storage, and Infrastructure as Code technologies (Ansible, Puppet, or similar).
- Experience developing automation using Bash, KornShell (ksh), Python, PowerShell, and Oracle Linux patch automation.
- Ability to communicate complex technical issues to both technical and business stakeholders while leading operational meetings and providing status updates.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain the required agency security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner certification is preferred but not required.
- Knowledge of networking technologies, protocols, connectivity, and security.
- Self-motivated professional with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced production environment.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
Target Salary Range$104,000 - $166,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
