Full Job Description
About The Role:

Little Spoon is looking for a Senior Lifecycle Marketing Manager, Retention to own our retention lifecycle strategy across email, SMS, push, and in-app channels. This is a high-ownership, high-visibility cross-functional role. The person who steps into this role should walk into every cross-functional room as the clear retention expert with a deep understanding of the Little Spoon customer experience across every touchpoint-shaping what lifecycle does, why, and what it should do next.

This role requires someone who can independently drive programs from ideation through post-launch readout, communicate proactively across partners and leadership, and establish a strong, confident POV on what retention communications should look like at Little Spoon.

What You'll Do:

Retention Program Strategy + Execution

  • Set the strategy for Little Spoon's automated retention programs across email, SMS, push, and in-app, from the brief through to post-launch optimization
  • Own programs end-to-end with no gaps: ideation, briefing, segmentation, Braze build, QA, launch, post-launch monitoring, and readout
  • Drive a rigorous test-and-learn agenda tied to company-level retention metrics (order rate, skip behavior, churn, LTV)
  • Be the person others consult on what's happening in the retention journey, fluent enough in every active program to answer questions on setup, audience, logic, and performance on the spot

Cross-functional Collaboration

  • Serve as the lifecycle retention voice in cross-functional work streams, proactively shaping conversations, not waiting to be invited in
  • Manage lifecycle timelines and blockers transparently: surface delays, scope changes, and open questions to pod leads and leadership before they become problems
  • Bridge the off-site and in-account experience, ensuring lifecycle communications and what customers find in their account are coherent, connected, and inform each other
  • Partner closely with Data + Analytics to design rigorous experiments with proper measurement (holdouts, success criteria, incrementally read-outs)
  • Work with creative and copy partners to deliver high-quality lifecycle communications that optimize for performance

Program Scope

  • Own retention automation strategy and execution including: post-checkout retention journeys, skip and unskip programs, category upsell and cross-sell, product launch lifecycle support, and loyalty program lifecycle
  • Lead strategy for emerging channels and programs as the business evolves (app push, loyalty, membership)
  • Monitor and analyze performance on an ongoing basis, translating data into clear strategic recommendations
What You'll Bring:
  • You are the expert in the room and you act like it, You bring your retention POV vocally to cross-functional meetings without being asked
  • You independently drive projects from kickoff to post-launch readout and you surface blockers, communicate scope changes, and close loops
  • You make decisions with confidence and communicate them clearly, course-correcting based on data
  • You know the details of every program you own, how it's set up, what it sends, who receives it, and how it's performing
  • You have a strong experimentation instinct paired with rigorous measurement discipline - you design tests to learn, not just to ship
  • You are organized and systems-oriented, with a disciplined approach to tracking in-flight work and surfacing what needs to move
  • You're a positive, collaborative presence - you bring energy and warmth to the work while holding a high bar for quality and execution
  • You are obsessed with and deeply understand the Little Spoon customer experience and use that knowledge to consistently elevate both lifecycle strategy and cross-functional decision-making
  • You actively leverage AI tools to elevate the quality and speed of your work, using them to enhance personalization, accelerate post-launch analysis, and find efficiencies in how programs are built and optimized
What You'll Need:
  • 6+ years of lifecycle marketing experience with a clear focus on retention
  • Hands-on experience building and optimizing automated journeys in Braze (or comparable platform like Iterable or Klaviyo)
  • Proven track record driving measurable retention improvements through experimentation and program optimization
  • Deep knowledge of segmentation logic, audience strategy, and lifecycle measurement - including experiment design with proper holdouts and incrementality analysis
  • Experience working cross-functionally with data, product, creative, and care teams
  • DTC subscription experience strongly preferred

About Little Spoon

By The Great Horn Spoon is a children's novel by Sid Fleischman, published in 1963. It tells the story of a 12-year-old boy and his English butler and their adventures in the California Gold Rush. It was adapted into the Disney film The Adventures of Bullwhip Griffin, starring Roddy McDowall and Suzanne Pleshette. Because of its setting, the novel is recommended by the California Department of Education as a literary selection for classroom use. Twelve-year-old Jack heads to California to search for gold after his Aunt Arabella loses all her money. He is accompanied by Aunt Arabella's butler, Praiseworthy. They plan to pay for passage on the ship Lady Wilma, but when a criminal named Cut-Eye Higgins steals their money, they stow away instead. Captain Swain catches them and forces them to work for their passage in the coal bunkers. While there, they meet Dr. Buckbee, who possesses a map of the gold fields. Cut-Eye Higgins steals the map and escapes in one of the lifeboats. During the journey, the Lady Wilma sails around Cape Horn and wins a race against a ship called the Sea Raven. After arriving in California, Praiseworthy and Jack give a miner named Quartz Jackson a haircut. Quartz Jackson teaches them how to pan for gold and finds some gold dust in his beard. He gives the gold dust to Praiseworthy, who puts it into his left glove. Praiseworthy and Jack board a stagecoach for the gold fields, only to discover Cut-Eye Higgins on the same journey. Highwaymen hold up the stagecoach and one tries to take Aunt Arabella's picture from Praiseworthy. Praiseworthy knocks him uphill with a punch from his left glove, which was weighted by the gold dust. The robbers take Higgins' coat, which contains the map.
