Full Job Description
Piper Companies is seeking a Senior Legal Director, Global Commercial to join a rapidly expanding global clinical research organization for a hybrid permanent position based in the Raleigh/Durham, NC area. The Senior Legal Director, Global Commercial will provide strategic leadership for a global commercial legal function, overseeing complex contract negotiations, advising executive leadership, and managing a distributed team supporting operations across North America, Europe, and Asia-Pacific.

Responsibilities:
• Lead and mentor a global team of legal professionals, creating scalable processes and driving high performance across multiple regions.
• Direct negotiation and execution of complex commercial agreements related to clinical trials, sponsor engagements, vendor partnerships, and supporting services.
• Establish and maintain global contracting standards, templates, playbooks, and risk management frameworks to ensure consistency and efficiency.
• Collaborate with executive leadership, business development, finance, and operational teams to provide strategic legal guidance on high-value transactions.
• Champion the use of legal technology, AI-driven tools, and contract lifecycle management solutions to improve turnaround times and enhance operational effectiveness.

Qualifications:
• Juris Doctor (JD) degree or equivalent with active bar admission in at least one applicable jurisdiction.
• 14+ years of post-qualification legal experience, including significant in-house experience within a CRO, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or life sciences services organization.
• Extensive experience negotiating clinical trial agreements, master service agreements, work orders, vendor contracts, investigator agreements, and other commercial healthcare contracts.
• Proven leadership experience managing and developing legal teams across multiple geographies while partnering directly with executive stakeholders.
• Strong understanding of healthcare compliance, privacy considerations, contract management technologies, and legal process optimization within a high-growth environment.

Compensation:

Salary Range: $250,000 - $320,000/year (USD) + 25% annual bonus
