Full Job Description
Ausenco is seeking an experienced Senior/Lead Flotation Specialist to join our Process/Metallurgy team in Vancouver or Toronto, providing technical leadership and mentorship across flotation-related work on projects spanning the mining and minerals sector. This role suits a seasoned flotation professional who can lead teams and set technical direction across operations know-how, OEM engagement, test work, optimisation, and design. Experience with coarse particle flotation, test work management, and site-based training is highly regarded, along with a willingness to travel to site for optimisation and diagnostic work. About the Role • Provide technical leadership and direction on flotation circuit design, from concept through detailed engineering, across a range of ore types and project stages (scoping, PFS, FS, EPCM) • Lead and mentor a team of metallurgists and process engineers, reviewing their work and building technical capability across the group • Own the review and interpretation of metallurgical test work programs (bench, pilot, and plant-scale), guiding test work strategy and ensuring outcomes translate into robust design criteria • Act as the senior technical point of contact with OEMs and equipment suppliers on flotation cell selection, sizing, and performance guarantees • Lead optimisation initiatives for operating plants, including circuit troubleshooting, debottlenecking, and performance improvement studies • Travel to site to conduct optimisation reviews and diagnostic work, identifying root causes of performance issues and implementing corrective actions • Manage flotation test work programs end-to-end, including scope development, laboratory/site coordination, scheduling, budget tracking, and reporting • Deliver site-based training to operations and technical teams on flotation fundamentals, best practice, and troubleshooting • Apply deep operational experience to ensure designs are practical, maintainable, and aligned with real-world plant performance • Take ownership of mass balances, equipment sizing calculations, and process design criteria for flotation circuits, signing off on deliverables • Lead due diligence reviews, technical audits, and studies for clients, presenting findings and recommendations directly • Represent Ausenco in client-facing discussions, workshops, and technical presentations • Collaborate with and provide technical input to multidisciplinary project teams (mechanical, controls, piping) to ensure integrated design outcomes • Contribute to business development, including technical input on proposals and scopes of work • Support recruitment, technical training programs, and continuous improvement of internal flotation design standards and tools About You • Minimum 10 years' experience in flotation, spanning operations, engineering, or a combination of both, with demonstrated progression into a technical leadership capacity • Bachelor's degree in Metallurgical/Mineral Processing Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline • Broad experience across operations, OEM/equipment vendor roles, metallurgical test work interpretation, circuit optimisation, and flotation circuit design • Strong understanding of flotation fundamentals, reagent schemes, and circuit configurations across various commodities (copper, gold, base metals, etc.) • Track record of developing and reviewing process design criteria, mass balances, and equipment specifications • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop technical staff • Confident, senior-level communicator, comfortable representing the business with clients, OEMs, and internal stakeholders • Willing and able to travel to site for optimisation and diagnostic work, including extended stays as required Preferred Experience • Experience with coarse particle flotation (e.g. HydroFloat, Reflux Flotation Cell, or similar coarse particle recovery technologies) • Proven experience managing test work programs, including scoping, scheduling, budgeting, and liaising with laboratories and test facilities • Experience delivering site-based training for operations and technical personnel on flotation fundamentals and best practice • Experience across multiple commodities and geographies • Familiarity with flotation modelling/simulation software • Prior consulting or EPCM project experience in a leadership role • Chartered/Professional Engineer status Salary range: $150,000-$190,000 annually Expected Salary: Variation in salary is determined by factors such as qualifications, relevant years of experience, and prevailing market conditions for the specific role Join us and work a better way.
