Full Job Description
Ausenco is seeking an experienced Senior/Lead Flotation Specialist to join our Process/Metallurgy team in Vancouver or Toronto, providing technical leadership and mentorship across flotation-related work on projects spanning the mining and minerals sector. This role suits a seasoned flotation professional who can lead teams and set technical direction across operations know-how, OEM engagement, test work, optimisation, and design. Experience with coarse particle flotation, test work management, and site-based training is highly regarded, along with a willingness to travel to site for optimisation and diagnostic work.
About the Role
• Provide technical leadership and direction on flotation circuit design, from concept through detailed engineering, across a range of ore types and project stages (scoping, PFS, FS, EPCM)
• Lead and mentor a team of metallurgists and process engineers, reviewing their work and building technical capability across the group
• Own the review and interpretation of metallurgical test work programs (bench, pilot, and plant-scale), guiding test work strategy and ensuring outcomes translate into robust design criteria
• Act as the senior technical point of contact with OEMs and equipment suppliers on flotation cell selection, sizing, and performance guarantees
• Lead optimisation initiatives for operating plants, including circuit troubleshooting, debottlenecking, and performance improvement studies
• Travel to site to conduct optimisation reviews and diagnostic work, identifying root causes of performance issues and implementing corrective actions
• Manage flotation test work programs end-to-end, including scope development, laboratory/site coordination, scheduling, budget tracking, and reporting
• Deliver site-based training to operations and technical teams on flotation fundamentals, best practice, and troubleshooting
• Apply deep operational experience to ensure designs are practical, maintainable, and aligned with real-world plant performance
• Take ownership of mass balances, equipment sizing calculations, and process design criteria for flotation circuits, signing off on deliverables
• Lead due diligence reviews, technical audits, and studies for clients, presenting findings and recommendations directly
• Represent Ausenco in client-facing discussions, workshops, and technical presentations
• Collaborate with and provide technical input to multidisciplinary project teams (mechanical, controls, piping) to ensure integrated design outcomes
• Contribute to business development, including technical input on proposals and scopes of work
• Support recruitment, technical training programs, and continuous improvement of internal flotation design standards and tools
About You
• Minimum 10 years' experience in flotation, spanning operations, engineering, or a combination of both, with demonstrated progression into a technical leadership capacity
• Bachelor's degree in Metallurgical/Mineral Processing Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline
• Broad experience across operations, OEM/equipment vendor roles, metallurgical test work interpretation, circuit optimisation, and flotation circuit design
• Strong understanding of flotation fundamentals, reagent schemes, and circuit configurations across various commodities (copper, gold, base metals, etc.)
• Track record of developing and reviewing process design criteria, mass balances, and equipment specifications
• Demonstrated ability to lead and develop technical staff
• Confident, senior-level communicator, comfortable representing the business with clients, OEMs, and internal stakeholders
• Willing and able to travel to site for optimisation and diagnostic work, including extended stays as required
Preferred Experience
• Experience with coarse particle flotation (e.g. HydroFloat, Reflux Flotation Cell, or similar coarse particle recovery technologies)
• Proven experience managing test work programs, including scoping, scheduling, budgeting, and liaising with laboratories and test facilities
• Experience delivering site-based training for operations and technical personnel on flotation fundamentals and best practice
• Experience across multiple commodities and geographies
• Familiarity with flotation modelling/simulation software
• Prior consulting or EPCM project experience in a leadership role
• Chartered/Professional Engineer status
Salary range: $150,000-$190,000 annually
Expected Salary: Variation in salary is determined by factors such as qualifications, relevant years of experience, and prevailing market conditions for the specific role
