About The Position

  • Generates reports and regular datasets or report information for end-users, using system tools and database or data warehouse queries and scripts. May create specifications for reports based on business requests.
  • Designs, develops and programs methods, processes, and systems to consolidate and analyze structured and unstructured, diverse sources to generate actionable insights and solutions for client services and product enhancement. Analyzes and models data to understand complex business issues and provide insight to decision makers. Integrates data from multiple sources to produce requested or required data elements. Programs and maintains reports, information dashboards, data generators, canned reports and other end-user information portals or resources.
  • Leads enterprise-wide data integration, warehousing and modeling activities across platforms
  • Uses best practices in data engineering, data warehouse development and integration with enterprise systems

Key responsibilities include:

  • Analyzes data from multiple sources and negotiates differences in storage schema using the ETL process
  • Researches, troubleshoots and resolves data issues impacting extract delivery
  • Displays deep understanding of requirements regarding solutions, ensures data quality and match-back to core systems transaction results
  • Identifies and documents process for building data models within a single complex area of Ameren’s business (e.g., Distribution Control Center, Transmission, Gas Supply)
  • Assembles large and complex data sets; develops data models based on specifications using structured data sets
  • Develops familiarity with emerging and complex automations and technologies that support business processes
  • Collaborates with Data Scientists to ensure architectural and project specification needs are being met
  • Conducts necessary data transformations to populate data into a warehouse table structure that is optimized for reporting
  • Isolates and defines core reusable data assets that support the long-term business strategy for development efforts
  • Reviews data analysis and data mapping logic; identifies recurring causes for defects and works proactively to resolve issues; reviews fixes with the data governance teams
  • Manages delivery of projects in partnership with business stakeholders by demonstrating a deep understanding of the business needs and how technical analysis can produce solutions
  • Translates complex business requirements and technical designs into modeling/warehousing solutions aligned to business goals that deliver measurable value to the organization
  • Designs and develops data models that provide solutions to business problems in alignment with enterprise architecture direction and design standards
  • Understands the Digital organization’s objectives, and the impact on own projects; contributes to development of new data engineering strategies
  • Reaches across multiple functions to implement the models into production and monitors their performance
  • Demonstrates strong working knowledge of agile software development processes and the development lifecycle; liaises with scrum masters and coaches to move projects forward
  • Coaches less experienced co-workers and provides feedback to enhance skills and knowledge

Qualifications - Senior Data Engineer

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in mathematics, statistics, computer science or business
  • 5+ years of relevant experience required

Qualifications - Lead Data Engineer

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in mathematics, statistics, computer science or business
  • 7+ years of relevant experience required

In addition to the above qualifications, the successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • Strong knowledge and experience in building and optimizing data pipelines, architectures, and datasets from structured datasets
  • Strong knowledge of data organization and design principles for enterprise data warehouses (EDW), data marts and data lakes
  • Demonstrated ability to build processes that support data transformation, structures, metadata, accuracy checking and workload management
  • Strong knowledge of cloud architecture
  • Strong knowledge of big data querying tools
  • Strong understanding of agile and project methodologies and processes
  • Strong analytical and creative thinking to address complex business problems

Compensation Range:

$105,100.00 - $204,400.00

* This pay range encompasses multiple levels of the role. Career level and compensation depends upon applicant’s credentials.

At Ameren, base salary is one component of a competitive compensation package for employees. Our pay ranges are broad to allow for movement within our organization and to accommodate different skill sets and levels of expertise. We take into consideration a variety of factors including, but not limited to, skills, abilities, experience, education, credentials, and internal equity when determining the base salary offered. Roles are eligible for additional rewards including annual incentive payments based on individual and company performance.
