Full Job Description
You've been surveying for years and are ready to advance. Legal Survey has drawn you in-the precision, the history... You see the process in proper order: research, measure, calculate, check, seal. You are meticulous as you survey the length of a property, forming the base of an architect's drawing. You define boundaries, the edges of what will be built. You have always relied on your focus, concentration, and patience.

Binnie is hiring a full- time Senior Land Surveyor for our Calgary office. You will be an integral part of the team. You will initiate projects, schedule and coordinate survey activities, use your strong ability to assess local market conditions and identify prospective clients, as well as foster relationships with new and existing clients to win new business. You will work primarily in the office, with the occasional field visits. This is a dynamic role with opportunities for career advancement.

YOUR ROLE:
  • Independently managing varied geomatics projects
  • Ensure scope, schedules and deliverables are defined and completed for all projects, and design and plan project execution
  • Coordinate with Division Manager and other Project Managers to secure the required Binnie resources necessary to complete your project deliverables on schedule
  • Proactively plan and coordinate the activities and documentation required of the resources working on your projects
  • Prepare well planned and complete project proposals based on client needs, available background information and site inspection
  • Monitoring survey performance on projects
  • Developing and maintaining strong client relationships
  • Support or lead business development efforts, including proposals, discussions with potential new clients, and business development activities
  • Communicate professionally and collaboratively with internal and external client as required
  • Making recommendations to Survey Manager for improvements
  • Training and mentoring technical staff's professional development

WHAT YOU BRING:
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive survey experience with 5-8 years managing mid-to-complex legal survey projects
  • Alberta Land Surveyor commission (in good standing with ALSA)
  • Degree or Diploma in Geomatics Engineering Technology
  • Strong knowledge of surveying techniques, practices, equipment, software and safety requirements
  • Strong understanding of project management resource planning and budgeting practices and techniques
  • Demonstrated leadership ability, excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to write strong proposals for medium-sized projects
  • Proven business development skills to grow industry relationships and generate new revenue streams through engagement of prospective clients
  • Valid Driver's License for site visits

THE PERKS:

People come first. We support you with the education, mentoring, and growth opportunities you need to build an interesting career. As an employee-owned firm, we create a clear internal growth path that can keep up with even the most ambitious professionals. Whether it's through our Employee Resources groups like Young Professionals and RISE; our mentoring programs, Binnie Banters speech club, Movember, or book club, everyone can get involved in their own way.
