Location: Lafayette, LA, Knoxville, TN, Birmingham, AL Work Mode: 5 Days Onsite Position Description Systemone is seeking a Senior Kubernetes Platform Engineer to build, manage, and scale production Amazon EKS environments in a fast paced, AWS centric infrastructure.
Your Future Duties and Responsibilities In this role, you will own the full Kubernetes lifecycle - from cluster provisioning and upgrades to node management and deprecation planning - while ensuring high availability and strong operational controls across all environments.
You'll optimize networking, ingress, and secure traffic flows, implement workload reliability patterns such as autoscaling and resilience testing, and establish robust observability practices across metrics, logs, traces, and alerting. Security will be a core focus, including RBAC, policy enforcement, image controls, secrets management, and runtime hardening.
This role also involves building platform automation using Infrastructure as Code and GitOps style workflows, along with supporting incident response and performance troubleshooting for containerized production services. This is a great opportunity for a hands on platform engineer who thrives in high scale, security conscious cloud environments.
Required Qualifications to Be Successful in This Role - 5+ years experience in DevOps, SRE, or platform engineering, with significant hands on Kubernetes production experience.
- Solid track record managing production Kubernetes environments, especially Amazon EKS, at scale.
- Comfortable owning the full cluster lifecycle - provisioning, upgrades, node pools, and retirement planning.
- Strong grasp of AWS networking and security basics: VPC, IAM, load balancers, and storage integrations.
- Hands on experience with container deployment strategies and reliability engineering (autoscaling, resource tuning, scheduling).
- Practical automation skills using Terraform or CloudFormation.
- Experience setting up monitoring, logging, and alerting for containerized workloads.
- Familiarity with Kubernetes security practices - RBAC, policy enforcement, secrets management, image hardening.
- Bonus: exposure to GitLab CI/CD pipelines for Kubernetes deployments.
- Bonus: experience standardizing platforms or managing multiple clusters across teams.
Educational Requirement Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related technical field is required.
