The Senior Investigator conducts and leads complex AML (Anti-Money Laundering) investigations into potential money laundering, terrorist financing, sanctions evasion, and related risks, ensuring alignment with regulatory and internal standards. This role supports high-quality investigative outcomes and effective risk identification and escalation.

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

Investigations
  • Conduct investigations, including complex and high-risk cases.
  • Analyze client profiles and transactional activity to identify Reasonable Grounds to Suspect (RGS).
  • Produce clear, well-supported investigative outputs aligned to standards.


Risk Identification and Reporting
  • Identify and escalate high-risk clients, activities, and material issues (e.g., Politically Exposed Persons (PEPs), sanctions exposure, elevated risk indicators) in accordance with approved procedures.
  • Support timely and high-quality regulatory reporting (e.g., Suspicious Transaction Reports (STRs)).
  • Recommend risk mitigation actions and client outcomes.


Advisory and Escalation
  • Provide guidance to management on investigative outcomes and disposition.
  • Act as an escalation point for complex or ambiguous cases.


Quality and Oversight
  • Review investigations and outputs to ensure consistency and quality.
  • Identify trends and improvement opportunities.


Coaching and Development
  • Provide mentorship and subject matter expertise.
  • Reinforce investigative standards and best practices.
  • Champion a high-performance environment and contribute to an inclusive work environment.


Collaboration and Communication
  • Champion a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Partner with stakeholders to support investigations and risk mitigation.
  • Deliver clear, structured presentations and written materials, ensuring accuracy and effective interpretation of findings.


Operational Contribution
  • Actively pursue effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank's Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.
  • Support workflow oversight and identify process inefficiencies.
  • Drive improvements to control and investigative effectiveness.


Governance
  • Ensure compliance with policies and adherence to risk appetite and standards.
  • Understand how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions

  • University degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience, with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in AML, financial crime, risk management, or a related field, including complex investigations.
  • Strong analytical, investigative, and critical thinking skills.
  • Proven ability to exercise sound judgment and assess materiality.
  • Effective written communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong knowledge of AML frameworks and regulations.
  • Demonstrates integrity, accountability, and attention to detail.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is required for roles based in the Colombian and Dominican Republic AML Hubs.
