Full Job Description
We are looking for our next Senior Improvement Engineer within our Methocel Manufacturing Technology Team. The MT Improvement Engineer will be responsible for identifying and executing medium to long term, non-Capex projects for productivity (cost & capacity), yield, quality, and sustainability improvements for the Midland, MI Methocel facility. This role will help execute early Front-End Loading (FEL) activities on Capex projects and support business case and scope development along with detail design, commissioning and start up activities. This role will also help drive key KPI initiatives for the site, including OEE, cost savings, etc.

This position is located in Midland, Michigan, United States (Midland, MI, USA)

Compensation:

The current salary range for this role is estimated to be $110,000-150,000. In addition, this position may also be eligible to earn performance-based incentive compensation. The specific compensation offered to a candidate will be influenced by a variety of factors including but not limited to skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

What You'll Do:
  • Develop & drive improvement initiatives and metrics at the site and across the network as appropriate.
  • Act as a key contact point for process technology problems at the site.
  • Execute process safety Dust & Process Hazard Analyses and lead implementation of required follow up.
  • Identify, develop/execute medium to longer term, non-CapEx projects for productivity (cost & capacity), yield, quality, and sustainability improvement.
  • Execute early Front End Loading (FEL) activity on appropriate CapEx projects (Grow & Improve, quality improvement, etc.) to include business case & scope development. Support detailed design, lead commissioning & start-up activities, RTO as appropriate.
  • Develop & own site mass balances & models to understand yield improvement and debottlenecking opportunities.
  • Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions to address longer term production issues.
  • Work with MC Technology Guardian to support process technology development.
  • Work with the process R&D group to complete raw material & technology trials, new product scale up and execute DOE's.
  • Regular liaison with IE's and production engineers at sister sites to leverage knowledge & experience on issue resolution and improvement activity.
  • Mining & modelling process data to identify trends & changes, causes of variation, opportunities for improvement.


What You'll Need:

Education:
  • Preferred Bachelors of Science in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent degree

Experience:
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in manufacturing and engineering, preferably in Operations or Technology role.

Work Environment
  • This role spends approximately 50% of the time in an office environment and 50% of the time in the plant environment.

Physical Demands
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to speak or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk, climb stairs, use hands and fingers to handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms; work in hot, cold and loud environments.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
  • This is a full-time position Monday-Friday.
  • Flexible hours of work are required to meet facility demands.
  • This role is considered for 5 days on site, with option to grow into 1-3 days remote.

Business Travel:
  • Travel will be minimal for this role but may be required for training or to visit other manufacturing facilities.
  • Travel outside of the region/country will be minimal but may be needed for customer visits or visiting other facilities in the network-generally no more than 1-2 times per year.
