Full Job Description
Primary Purpose of Position Reporting to the Director, Health, Safety and Environment, the Senior HSE Advisor will assist with company Health and Safety initiatives and provide guidance, direction & support to the production and operation group, other functional groups regarding to the HSE best practices, legislation, and other related inquiries. Although this position will be based in Sinopec Canada's Calgary office, travel to field locations will be required at times. This position will be responsible for various tasks, including but not limited to: Roles and Responsibilities
  • Conduct field-based worksite safety audits, including HSE management systems and implementation of policies and procedures
  • Conduct detailed incident investigations, identifying direct and indirect causes, implement and manage corrective actions to prevent reoccurrences
  • Develop and maintain a process that identifies regulatory and industry trends and changes within Health, Safety & Environment
  • Liaise with client/contractor HSE representatives, first line management and supervisors
  • Ensure that employees, contractors and supervisors understand and conduct all operational activities in compliance with corporate expectations
  • Represent Sinopec Canada through participation with local and regional stakeholder groups, including regulators and local communities
  • Provide technical assistance when required on HSE-related matters
  • Develop, revise and implement policies, procedures and HSE programs as required
  • Management of the Emergency Response program through maintenance and training exercises
  • Conduct field safety inspections, contractor audits
  • Provide accurate, reliable and verifiable reports and statistics regarding HSE incidents and accidents
  • Coach and mentor field personnel in Risk Management / Hazard Assessments
  • Perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned
Position Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • Advanced skills and knowledge in the Microsoft Office/Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Visio, Excel);
  • A collaborative team player with excellent communication skills, ability to influence and leadership skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to identify areas for improvement and implement systems, policies and procedures;
  • Must have a passion for influencing culture and training, while taking a hands-on approach to influencing our business and building on the strong safety commitment and culture;
  • Knowledge of Process Safety Management, Asset Integrity Management, Bowtie Analysis will be considered an asset;
  • Strong attention to detail, time management, accuracy, and keen sense of urgency and priority planning;
  • Strong delivery on quality results in a deadline-driven work environment;
  • Exceptional communication skills, including both impeccable written and verbal skills;
  • Strong ability to be proactive and take initiative to identify and address an improvement or need;

Qualifications
  • Minimum of 10-15 years of experience in Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) with 5-10 years of direct HSE experience in a senior position, within the oil and gas industry;
  • A post-secondary diploma or degree in Occupational Health and Safety and/or CRSP, NSCO designation is required.
  • Must be legally qualified to work in Canada.
