Job Description

JMT is seeking a Senior Highway Project Manager to oversee a diverse portfolio of projects and ensure successful delivery through effective technical management, quality assurance, schedule optimization, and budget oversight. This position supports the full project life cycle, including the identification of prospective opportunities, advancement of marketing initiatives within targeted growth markets, and provision of leadership, guidance, and mentorship to project teams. The Senior Project Manager will play a key role in maintaining alignment with JMT's organizational objectives as well as the opportunity for continued professional and organizational growth within JMT.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

General
  • Manages project(s) in accordance with scope, schedule, and budget
  • Collaborates across disciplines and with teaming partners to develop a risk averse project scope and fee
  • Develop project specific deliverables (plans, specifications, estimate, and other required documentation)
  • Implement and maintain Project Management Plans and QA/QC during project lifecycle
  • Create and maintain project schedules
  • Manage subconsultants
  • Monitor and execute project progress, including identifying and mitigating risk, developing extra work order requests and open-end contract task proposals
  • Communicate project status updates and items of note to internal and external stakeholders
  • Participate in office's project financial status meetings
  • Build relationships with clients to understand preferences and requirements to set-up and execute a quality project
  • Prepare progress reports and review invoices
  • Develop and lead in project status reports and presentations
  • Facilitate an office culture of caring about clients, staff, community, quality, and safety

Marketing & Business Development
  • Lead the marketing/proposal process including SMART Go/No Go decisions, proposal development, interviews, and developing a win strategy
  • Collaborating with Section Head and Office Leader on identifying leads and opportunities based on strategic goals
  • Assist Section Head and Office Leader with developing strategic goals based on client's program information, etc.
  • Develop and maintain a strong network of clients and other industry stakeholders

Project Oversight
  • Coordinate and guide all technical resources within the project team to ensure delivery of a high-quality outcome
  • Leverage advanced knowledge and experience with the client and project type to analyze the project, anticipate potential risks (such as overruns and scope changes), and implement effective mitigation strategies
  • Implement strategies for project tracking and reporting by using project performance metrics to foresee and mitigate issues

Staff Mentorship
  • Providing coaching and mentorship to the project team through one-on-one check-in meetings and various project debriefs to acknowledge achievements, identify areas for improvement, and share lessons learned
  • Lead and manage team members by providing leadership and continuous performance management (setting expectations, goals, feedback, 1:1 meeting, coaching) that supports the growth and development of team

Required Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field from an ABET accredited engineering program
  • Professional Engineer's Texas License
  • 15+ years of experience
  • Manage multi-disciplined project teams
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Strong Communication Skills
  • Strong Presentation Skills
  • Business development experience

Preferred Experience
  • Experience working with local clients
  • Experience with multiple project delivery methods i.e. Design-Bid-Build, Design-Build, P3

Working Conditions

Work is performed within a general office environment 95% of the time. Work is generally sedentary in nature but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.

Field work is required on occasion where work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Some lifting (up to 25 lbs) may be required as needed.
