JLL is seeking an experienced Senior High Voltage Electrical Engineer to lead the design and engineering of critical electrical infrastructure for hyperscale data centers and mission-critical facilities. This role provides technical leadership for complex capital projects involving high voltage electrical systems, utility-scale substations, on-site generation, and renewable energy integration.

You will serve as the technical authority on data center electrical infrastructure projects, leading system architecture development, utility coordination, and engineering oversight from concept through commissioning. This position requires deep expertise in medium voltage and high voltage power distribution, substation design, and generation technologies specific to large-scale data center operations.

Lead design and engineering of high voltage electrical systems for hyperscale data center campuses including medium voltage (4.16kV-35kV) and utility voltage (69kV-230kV) distribution infrastructure. Develop comprehensive electrical system architectures optimizing reliability, redundancy, and scalability for mission-critical computing loads with N+1, 2N, and 2N+1 configurations.

Design utility-scale substations serving multi-hundred megawatt data center campuses including primary and secondary substation configurations, ring bus schemes, and campus loop distribution systems. Develop single-line diagrams, protection schematics, and substation layouts incorporating digital relaying and substation automation.

Perform complex electrical system studies including load flow analysis, short circuit calculations, arc flash hazard assessments, transient stability analysis, harmonic analysis, and protective device coordination. Utilize advanced modeling software to optimize system performance and validate design decisions.

Lead utility interconnection strategy and design for developments requiring 100+ MW of utility capacity. Navigate complex utility engineering processes, transmission planning studies, and interconnection agreements with multiple utility providers.

Architect electrical distribution systems for hyperscale data centers with power densities of 10-50+ MW per building and rack densities from 10-100+ kW. Design medium voltage distribution loops, unit substations, and diverse utility feeds supporting Tier III and Tier IV availability requirements.

Develop campus electrical master plans supporting phased build-out of multi-building data center campuses with total capacity exceeding 500 MW. Create infrastructure roadmaps accommodating future expansion and technology evolution while optimizing capital efficiency.

Design redundant power architectures supporting concurrent maintainability requirements. Develop switching schemes, isolation strategies, and maintenance bypass configurations enabling full system maintenance without impacting critical load.

Lead integration of sustainable power solutions including on-site solar arrays, battery energy storage systems (BESS), fuel cells, and microgrids. Design systems supporting corporate sustainability objectives and power purchase agreement requirements.

Lead design of utility-scale electrical substations (69kV-230kV) serving hyperscale data center campuses. Develop substation electrical designs including equipment arrangements, protection schemes, control systems, and grounding systems meeting utility requirements and IEEE standards.

Design on-site generation systems including emergency generators (5-20 MW units), natural gas generators, and combined heat and power (CHP) systems supporting extended utility outages. Develop generator paralleling schemes and automatic transfer switch configurations ensuring seamless power transfer.

Engineer grid-scale battery energy storage systems (10-200+ MWh) supporting utility demand response, frequency regulation, renewable energy time-shifting, and backup power. Design solar photovoltaic systems and renewable energy integration supporting corporate sustainability targets.

Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineering teams developing high voltage engineering expertise. Establish electrical engineering standards, design guidelines, and best practices for data center infrastructure.

Serve as trusted technical advisor to hyperscale clients on electrical infrastructure strategy, capacity planning, and capital investment decisions. Support business development activities including proposal development and technical presentations.

Lead technical due diligence for data center acquisitions evaluating existing electrical infrastructure condition, capacity, reliability, and upgrade requirements. Develop long-term electrical infrastructure master plans for multi-phase campus developments.

Lead comprehensive design reviews of electrical engineering deliverables ensuring technical accuracy, code compliance, and constructability. Verify compliance with NEC, IEEE standards, NFPA 70E, Uptime Institute Tier Standards, and utility requirements.

Provide expert field engineering support during construction of high voltage electrical systems and substations. Lead resolution of complex field issues requiring engineering judgment and technical decision-making.

Develop comprehensive commissioning plans and test procedures for high voltage electrical systems. Lead commissioning activities including transformer energization procedures, protective relay testing, generator validation, and integrated system performance testing.

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from ABET-accredited program
• 8-12 years of progressive electrical engineering experience with substantial focus on high voltage power systems, substation design, and mission-critical facilities
• Professional Engineer (PE) license in good standing or ability to obtain licensure in multiple states
• Deep expertise in medium voltage (4.16kV-35kV) and high voltage (69kV-230kV) electrical system design, substation engineering, and utility interconnection
• Comprehensive knowledge of data center electrical infrastructure including redundant power architectures and Uptime Institute Tier Standards
• Expert-level proficiency with electrical analysis software (SKM PowerTools, ETAP, EasyPower)
• Demonstrated experience leading utility coordination and interconnection processes for large power users (100+ MW)
• Strong technical leadership and communication skills

• Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or Power Systems Engineering
• PE license active in multiple states
• LEED AP or sustainable design credential
• IEEE Senior Member status or active participation in professional societies
• Direct experience with hyperscale data center operators (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, Meta) or large colocation providers
• Expertise in renewable energy integration including large-scale solar PV and grid-scale battery storage
• Advanced knowledge of microgrid design and distributed energy resources
• Experience with design-build and EPC project delivery methods
• Background in campus master planning and phased infrastructure development
• Expertise in digital substation technologies and IEC 61850 protocols

High Voltage Power Systems: Medium voltage systems (4.16kV-35kV), high voltage systems (69kV-230kV), utility-scale substation design, power transformers (50-300+ MVA), medium voltage switchgear, protective relaying and coordination, grounding systems design per IEEE 80/81.

Data Center Electrical Systems: Tier III/IV power architectures, 2N and 2N+1 redundant designs, high-density power distribution (10-100+ kW/rack), UPS system integration, multi-megawatt generator systems, campus electrical distribution.

Generation & Energy Storage: Emergency and standby power generation, generator paralleling and synchronization, combined heat and power systems, battery energy storage systems (10-200+ MWh), solar PV systems, fuel cell technology.

Analysis Tools: SKM PowerTools, ETAP, EasyPower, AutoCAD, Revit MEP, arc flash analysis software, grounding analysis software, renewable energy modeling tools, SCADA platforms, Microsoft Office Suite (Advanced).
