Overview

The Washington State and Global Employee Engagement (WSGEE) team is seeking a Senior Government Affairs Manager to work in a fast-paced environment to provide programmatic support, policy and advocacy strategy execution, government affairs outreach, and project management. This individual will be a critical member of the team, working cross-functionally across our government, community, and employee engagement teams to support our home state and the Cascadia region (WA, OR, BC) as a whole. The position will work closely with the Senior Director of Government Affairs, as well as other members of the WSGEE team, providing political and strategic analysis and recommendations that inform and execute our advocacy strategy, policy positioning, and relationship development.

This opportunity will allow you to deepen and grow Microsoft's partnerships and influence with elected and appointed officials with an emphasis on state and local officials across Washington state. You will play a key role in ensuring the government affairs team within WSGEE stays coordinated and aligned on policy positions and priority areas of work. In this role you will be a systems-thinker and proactive problem solver, creative, motivated, and personable, capable of building strong relationships and juggling multiple priorities, with a strong drive for results and commitment to excellence. You will research government affairs issues impacting business strategy and economic development, attend meetings and events, develop prep materials, and collaborate with internal teams on cross-team projects.

Responsibilities

  • Promote Microsoft as a critical force for good across issues that are imperative to a strong state economy in Washington and the Cascadia region, including housing, education, transportation, sustainability, and economic development, and a leader in technological innovation that helps people, governments and organizations achieve more.


  • Represent Microsoft by attending, managing and coordinating events with elected and appointed officials, advocates, and other community leaders, which will involve developing content, drafting materials, and driving social media engagement. Collaborate with other teams to ensure a communications strategy is in place.


  • Manage tracking and monitoring for policy-, industry-, or geographical-related issues and execute on Microsoft strategies and/or programs related to government affairs. Respond to issues by engaging relevant parties, prioritizing issues, sharing political intelligence, and escalating matters or contacting a subject matter experts, as appropriate.


  • Contribute to the formation of Microsoft's policy agenda, advocacy strategies, community relations, and/or business objectives across the company. Gather and integrate data and intelligence to support the preparation of advocacy materials, internal and external briefings, and other documentation.


  • Lead, coordinate, and gain buy-in for intra- and cross-group projects, working with others to resolve conflicts and ensuring team alignment. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to understand and align objectives, priorities, and resources.


Qualifications
Required/minimum qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Public Policy, Public Administration, Political Science, Business Administration, Technology, Law, Liberal Arts, Engineering, or related field AND 4+ years work experience in government affairs, corporate affairs, public policy, government, or related area
    • OR equivalent experience.


Additional or preferred qualifications

  • 3+ years experience in developing and managing strategic relationships to advocate and influence public, regulatory, and technology policy priorities.
  • 3+ years experience influencing, developing, or supporting public policy or political campaigns.


Government Affairs IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $105,800 - $204,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $138,400 - $223,300 per year.
