About the role:
The USA Regional Experiences team’s mission is to grow the US remittance send business by improving the customer experience across the moments that matter most - onboarding, payment, and disbursement. As an engineer on the team, you'll apply your front-end-leaning, full-stack skillset to the customer challenges that matter most for growing Remitly's USA business - delighting the customer segments most critical to that growth. Your work will directly improve the lives of immigrants and their families sending money from the United States while helping build the next generation of trusted, borderless financial services.
You will:
Partner with product managers, designers, analysts, and other engineers to gather requirements and deliver scalable, high-quality software solutions with a customer-centric mindset.
Lead team projects to design and build solutions for ambiguous and difficult problems spanning multiple technologies (TypeScript, React Native, Java/Kotlin, Go) and systems, dividing features into components and tasks that can be worked in parallel for timely delivery.
Pioneer the team's use of modern AI-powered development tools to deliver faster while maintaining quality and security standards.
Champion engineering best practices by delivering well-tested, observable, well-documented, efficient, scalable, and resilient systems.
Drive improvements to team processes and shape cross-team technical designs.
Foster team growth by mentoring peers, conducting code reviews, participating in interviews, and supporting onboarding efforts.
Take part in an on-call rotation to ensure the reliability and support of the team's services.
Report to the Engineering Manager of the USA Regional Experiences team.
You have:
Strong computer science, web, and native app fundamentals, and knowledge of design patterns.
6+ years of software development experience.
Experience using AI throughout the software development lifecycle.
3+ years of React or React Native development experience.
Expertise in one of the following programming languages: TypeScript, JavaScript, Kotlin, Java, Go.
Excellent collaboration skills.
About the Role:
As a Senior Software Development Engineer on the High Value Send Experience team, you'll build the systems that earn the trust of Remitly's high value senders. These are customers moving large transfers for real estate, education, long-term investments, and other milestones that shape their financial futures across borders. This full-stack role spans customer-facing web and mobile experiences and deep partnership with foundational teams across identity and trust, money movement, pricing, and more. You'll partner with product, design, and engineering peers to define what it means to earn customer trust on their most consequential transfers --- for customers sending more, with more on the line. You will report to the Engineering Manager for the team.
You Will:
Champion the customer experience by using customer signal, product instincts, and data to inform technical decisions --- translating what high value senders need into the systems that serve them.
Lead technical design and architecture for complex systems that power the High Value Send experience --- breaking down ambiguous, greenfield problems into clear technical strategies and measurable outcomes.
Ship reliable, observable, and scalable systems across web, mobile, and backend services that meet strict availability and latency SLOs for the customer flows where trust matters most.
Operate AI-natively because it's how one person outships a team of ten.
Partner with product, design, analytics, and partner engineering teams to translate goals into scalable technical solutions for a diverse global customer base.
Strengthen engineering culture by mentoring teammates, leading technical discussions, providing meaningful code review feedback, and advocating for best practices in coding, testing, and system design as we grow this team.
You Have:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent work experience.
7+ years of professional software development experience, with experience building and operating systems end-to-end.
Experience building customer-facing experiences at product scale with TypeScript, React, and native mobile development (iOS/Android, React Native).
Proficiency in one or more modern backend languages such as Java, Kotlin, Go, or Python, with a record of delivering production-quality code.
Use AI tools in your own software development workflow — from authoring agents that act as force-multipliers that help you scale, to drafting and iterating on technical specs, prototyping or validating concepts using the Claude Code
Demonstrated experience designing and building distributed, large-scale systems with an understanding of service-oriented or microservices architecture.
Experience working with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure, including familiarity with managed services.
Bonus: Experience in FinTech, payments, or other regulated industries where reliability, security, and compliance shape engineering decisions.
