The Role:

As a senior engineer, you will help design, build, and safeguard the quality of applications across the GM's Product Validation, Safety & Quality IT (PVSQ) organization, which spans regulatory compliance, safety systems, and quality engineering used across vehicle programs. Depending on your strengths, you may lean toward building end-to-end features across the stack (Quarkus or Spring Boot services, a Next.js/React portal, a relational database, and a Databricks lakehouse) or toward the test automation and quality engineering that keep those systems reliable.

You will have the opportunity to work hands-on writing software or solutions, based on detailed requirements and system specifications. Using sound, repeatable, industry standard methodologies, you will support the PVSQ organization responsible for developing Nextgen applications. As part of development activities, we will update existing software and/or develop new software solutions to target specific business obstacles. A repeatable, systematic, and quantifiable approach to the development process will also be applied along with the use of appropriate methodologies.

As a coach/mentor, you will provide feedback on the software being developed to software developers. Ensure code alignment with design patterns/frameworks by working closely with architects and data scientists.

What You'll Do:

• Design and maintain back-end microservices inJava (Quarkus or Spring Boot), exposing bothREST and GraphQL APIs with well-defined, versioned contracts and shared DTOs.

• Build responsive front-end features in theNext.js / React portal using TypeScript and Apollo for GraphQL data access.

• Develop and supportDatabricks data workflows (Unity Catalog, Delta tables, and the medallion pattern) that feed regulatory reporting and dashboards.

• Evolve the transactional relational schema (PostgreSQL or Oracle) safely, writing versionedLiquibase changesets that ship through the same pipeline as application code.

• Produce clean, well-documented, testable code that aligns with the team's design patterns, frameworks, and standards.

• Conduct thorough code reviews and writeunit, integration, and end-to-end tests (TestNG, Selenium, cross-browser via BrowserStack) that gate every release.

• Diagnose and resolve issues across services, the portal, and data pipelines, using observability tooling (Datadog / App Insights).

• Work within the CI/CD pipeline (GitHub Actions, security scanning, promotion dev → test → prod) and help keepmain releasable at all times.

• Translate business and regulatory requirements into executable development work: break them down, shape the technical approach, and drive it through to delivery in partnership with stakeholders and BAs.

• Lead and drive software design for scalability and reusability across the full stack, from the UI down to the database structure.

What You'll Need:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

• 7+ years building and shipping production software, with strong recent depth inJava / JVM (Quarkus or Spring Boot).

• Demonstratedfull-stack capability: comfortable owning a feature from a Next.js / React / TypeScript front end through a Java service to the data layer, not backend-only.

• Proven ability to take a business requirement all the way to running software: owning the end-to-end design (UI through service to database structure) with scalability and reusability in mind, rather than only implementing predefined tickets.

• Hands-on experience designing and operatingRESTful and GraphQL APIs, including contract/versioning discipline and API security best practices.

• Solid experience with arelational database (PostgreSQL or Oracle) behind transactional services, using an ORM (Hibernate / JPA, ideally QuarkusPanache), and managing schema changes with a migration tool (Liquibase).

• Working knowledge ofdata-lakehouse platforms for the analytical/reporting side (Databricks / Delta / Unity Catalog strongly preferred); ability to reason about data models, lineage, and access control.

• Experience deploying and running services onAzure: containers (Docker), Kubernetes (AKS), and container registries.

• Fluency withGit and GitHub-based CI/CD (GitHub Actions or equivalent): automated build, test, security scanning, and promotion pipelines.

• Working knowledge ofInfrastructure as Code (Terraform) for provisioning and configuration.

• Comfort defining and upholding technical/operational metadata standards, data-movement patterns, and ETL/ELT best practices.

• Comprehensive understanding of the SDLC and experience inAgile / Scrum environments.

• Experience withApache Spark and large-scale data processing on Databricks (DBX job orchestration).

• Familiarity withchange-data-capture patterns and tooling (e.g., HVR) feeding a medallion lakehouse.

• Experience withGHAS (code/secret/dependency scanning), Wiz (container scanning), Dependabot, and secure-SDLC practices.

• Experience withfeature-flagged, trunk-based delivery and one-button/continuous release models.

• Familiarity withAI-assisted development workflows (e.g., Copilot, Cursor) and grounding agents with repo context (AGENTS.md / cross-service dependency maps).

• Background inregulated or compliance-driven domains where auditability and reporting deadlines are first-class concerns.

• Experience with observability platforms (Datadog, Azure Application Insights).
