Full Job Description
As a Senior Frontend Engineer on the Voice Communication team, you will spearhead one of Roblox's most high-impact growth levers on communication. You will be directly responsible for driving Communication Daily Active Users (DAU) by envisioning and architecting a highly engaging, immersive and seamless experience for millions of users. This role is central to our mission of reimagining human interaction, where providing reliable, lightning-fast, and intuitive communication is paramount to our social expansion.

You will lead the charge in architecting a robust, highly scalable voice client foundation designed to serve as a company-wide platform. Your work will ensure that any internal team at Roblox can easily onboard and integrate voice capabilities into their products. By building this solid technical core, you will enable the next generation of social interactions, moving from simple in-experience chat to sophisticated, persistent social presence across the entire ecosystem.

Furthermore, you will empower our creator community by developing sophisticated, yet accessible APIs that allow them to build deeply immersive experiences tailored to their unique visions. Crucially, you will ensure these systems are architected with a "safety-first" mindset, maintaining strict adherence to Roblox's industry-leading safety standards while scaling to meet the needs of a billion users.
You Will
  • Lead with empathy and invest in the people around you. Mentor and grow senior engineers, remove roadblocks for your teammates, and cultivate an environment where everyone can do their best work.
  • Shape the frontend engineering culture across the Communication team. Your influence extends beyond your immediate pod to improve how we build, review, and ship software across the entire org.
  • Act as the technical lead for cross-functional initiatives. Collaborate across multiple pods alongside product, design and both frontend and backend engineers.
  • Take end-to-end ownership of projects. Drive initiatives from the creation of comprehensive technical plans and architecture through to successful launch, iteration, and measurable impact.
  • Remain hands-on in the codebase. Our senior engineers actively develop the platform and review the code.
  • Design empowering systems. Build architectures that enable Roblox creators to unlock entirely new forms of voice communication for their users.


You Have
  • 5+ years of frontend or client engineering experience (8+ years without a CS or related degree), with a focus on building complex UIs and partnering closely with Product and Design.
  • Experience working on large-scale consumer applications in React/Redux, React Native, iOS, Android, Windows, Mac OS and other platforms.
  • Passion for client performance and solving really complex problems requiring performance profiling and optimization (things like memory management, rendering, etc.)
  • Real-time communications expertise in technologies like WebRTC or other equivalent ones. Led communication experiences at scale - think WhatsApp, Google Meet, FaceTime, Discord, or similar.
  • Leveraged AI for high-velocity execution. You have used AI-assisted development tools to accelerate prototyping, iterate quickly, and drive concepts to production.
  • Technical leadership. Proven experience mentoring and leveling up junior engineers into independent technical leaders.
  • Robust system design skills. Demonstrated ability to author clear, actionable technical design docs that align stakeholders and hold up well in architectural reviews.

The actual base pay is dependent upon a variety of job-related factors such as professional background, training, work experience, location, business needs and market demand. Therefore, in some circumstances, the actual salary could fall outside of this expected range. This pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. All full-time employees are also eligible for equity compensation and for benefits as described on this page.

Annual Salary Range

$243,290-$295,250 USD

Roles that are based in an office are onsite Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with optional presence on Monday and Friday (unless otherwise noted).
