The role combines financial forecasting, market intelligence, merchant acquiring analytics, and executive storytelling to provide leadership with a trusted, forward-looking view of business performance.
This position serves as a key analytical partner across Finance, Revenue, Product, Pricing, Business Intelligence, Strategy, and Executive Leadership. The role translates internal performance trends and external market indicators into actionable insights, supports short-term and long-range planning, identifies emerging risks and opportunities, and helps shape strategic business decisions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own monthly, quarterly, annual, and long-range forecasts for merchant payment volume and volume-based revenue streams across business segments, geographies, and channels.
  • Develop and maintain forecasting models for payment volume, DIA, pricing, attrition, same-store sales, new business, and strategic initiatives.
  • Establish forecast assumptions supporting annual planning, multi-year strategic plans, and executive reviews.
  • Perform scenario modeling, sensitivity analysis, and risk assessments to quantify potential impacts to forecasted performance.
  • Evaluate forecast assumptions, challenge business inputs, and identify key risks and opportunities impacting financial performance.

Market Intelligence & External Benchmarking

  • Monitor and evaluate external indicators including Personal Consumption Expenditures, retail sales, consumer spending trends, GDP and economic forecasts, card brand data, public acquirer and processor earnings, and industry analyst reports.
  • Translate macroeconomic, market, and competitive data into meaningful business implications and forecast adjustments.
  • Maintain a consolidated view of industry trends, competitive performance, and emerging opportunities.
  • Quantify the relationship between consumer spending trends and company volume performance.

Merchant Acquiring & Payments Ecosystem Analytics

  • Analyze the drivers of transaction and revenue growth, including same-store sales, new business, attrition, merchant mix, industry vertical performance, geographic trends, product adoption, and eCommerce or omnichannel growth.
  • Monitor card network rule changes, interchange updates, assessment changes, twice-annual network releases, and broader industry developments.
  • Evaluate how changes in card mix, credit versus debit penetration, consumer versus commercial cards, digital wallet adoption, and card-present versus card-not-present activity impact volume forecasts and revenue expectations.
  • Identify leading indicators of future volume growth, merchant health, margin pressure, and portfolio performance.

Financial Analysis, Business Insights & Executive Storytelling

  • Perform detailed variance analysis against Plan, Forecast, Prior Year, and prior forecast submissions.
  • Develop clear narratives explaining customer growth, attrition, pricing performance, market trends, revenue performance, and forecast outlook.
  • Produce executive-ready reporting and presentations for Month-End Close, Forecast Reviews, CFO Reviews, Strategic Planning Sessions, Executive Leadership meetings, Business Reviews, and Board or investor discussions.
  • Communicate complex financial, economic, and payment industry trends in a clear, concise, and leadership-ready manner.
  • Present findings, risks, opportunities, and recommendations to finance and business leadership.

Reporting Automation, Data Governance & Process Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to automate reporting, forecasting, and analytical processes.
  • Develop scalable reporting solutions and improve forecasting efficiency.
  • Partner with Business Intelligence teams to improve data quality, accessibility, governance, and semantic model adoption.
  • Validate data integrity across reporting platforms and source systems, investigate discrepancies, and maintain documentation, controls, and forecasting standards.
  • Continuously improve forecast accuracy through enhanced analytics, monitoring capabilities, and standardized methodologies.

Cross-Functional Partnership & Strategic Support

  • Partner with Product, Revenue, Pricing, Operations, Finance, Strategy, and Business Intelligence teams to align growth assumptions and understand business drivers.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on payment volume trends, merchant acquiring economics, and industry outlook.
  • Provide analytical support for strategic initiatives, product investments, acquisitions, market expansion opportunities, and long-term growth planning.
  • Act as a trusted advisor by providing independent financial perspectives and translating complex performance dynamics into actionable recommendations

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent work experience
  • Typically five or more years of related experience

Preferred Skills/Experience

  • Strong knowledge of merchant acquiring, payments, card networks, consumer spending trends, and revenue drivers.
  • Experience interpreting macroeconomic, market, and industry data and translating findings into business implications.
  • Experience with executive-level reporting, presentation development, and senior leadership communication.
  • Advanced Excel and data analysis skills, with experience working with large data sets, BI tools, and financial systems.
