Job Description:The Group Retirement Services (GRS) Finance team is responsible for providing accurate and timely financial information to enable effective management decision-making, working in partnership with our business partners in GRS and the Client Solutions Center (CSC), as well as other Business Units in Canada, including Canadian Finance.
The Senior Financial Analyst will oversee all expense management functions for the CSC and assist with GRS analysis. This includes completion of the monthly/quarterly expense reporting deliverables, playing a key role in the expense planning/forecast process, coordinating the yearly budget, and providing ad-hoc expense related analysis. The Senior Financial Analyst will also be instrumental in providing business and financial insights. Responsibilities include Client profitability management (Cost to Serve model), determining the financial viability of strategic initiatives, leading expense benchmarking and studies, creation of dashboards and reports, and ad hoc requests.
This role provides high exposure to all functional units in GRS and the CSC. The successful candidate will be an effective communicator, both verbal and written. They must have strong relationship building, an inquisitive mindset to draw financial insight, and critical thinking skills. Additionally, the candidate is expected to be flexible and able to adapt to a rapidly changing environment, challenging the status quo while respecting others, and maintaining a positive work environment.
What will you do?- Manage the annual Cost to Serve (CTS) model from data collection to report production and analysis of results
- Lead the analysis of levers for profitability growth (fund, member and Client level)
- Lead expense studies and industry benchmark surveys
- Collaborate with data experts (finance and analytics resources) to build and extract appropriate and accurate data sets to support complex analyses of business results
- Support the month/quarter-end reporting, forecasting and strategic plan/budgeting process for expense management
- Execute month-end close processes including accruals, expense transfers, and review of preliminary results for errors or unusual patterns in results
- Investigate and effectively communicate expense variances to all levels of management
- Analyze expense trends and recommend opportunities for savings
- Collaborate with other Finance areas to support and promote process integration and efficiencies
- Present to senior management and BU partners where required
- Prepare or assist in ad hoc analysis and projects as required by management
What do you need to succeed?- Minimum 5 years of business/accounting experience.
- Strong financial analysis and model development skills
- Working knowledge of IFRS 17 and impact to expense reporting
- Experience with expense reporting and accounting
- Proven ability to partner and build relationships
- Proven flexibility/adaptability/creativity to meet deadlines and manage priorities
- Excellent PC skills (Role utilizes tools such as: MS Office Suite, SAP, Tableau and Hyperion)
- Highly motivated with the ability to consistently seek out improvements to current processes
Preferred Skills:- An accounting designation or Master's degree is preferred.
- Prefer experience with Activity Based Costing/Cost to Serve/Segmentation Reporting
