Salary Range: $88,583 - $104,215

FLSA Status: Exempt

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Summary

The Operating Unit at Baylor College of Medicine, in partnership with Texas Children's Hospital, is seeking a Senior Financial Analyst to lead departmental financial operations. This role drives budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and performance analysis, provides strategic financial insights, oversee compliance, and partners with TCH leadership and BCM finance teams to optimize departmental performance and operational efficiency.

This position is eligible to work primarily from home within the Greater Houston, TX area with only occasional on site as needed.

Job Duties

Financial Management, Analysis & Reporting (50%)
  • Works closely with the senior manager to support and implement financial strategies aligned with TCH priorities.
  • Leads the planning, development, and oversight of the annual departmental budget in collaboration with senior manager and TCH leadership.
  • Conducts financial analysis, monitors departmental accounts, and evaluates performance to identify risks and opportunities.
  • Prepares and presents monthly financial reports, forecasts, and variance analyses to support decision-making.
  • Develops financial models, performs benchmarking, and analyzes trends to improve financial performance and operational efficiency.
  • Researches, analyzes and explains financial variances from budget, identifying key drivers and providing actionable insights.
  • Prepares forecast models and business analyses based on past, current, and projected performance.
  • Provides recommendations and creative solutions to enhance financial outcomes and reduce costs.
  • Maintains and enhances reporting tools and templates to support financial analysis and forecasting.
  • Manages and maintains faculty and staff effort allocations in PEPT.
  • Completes effort certification in ERAS for faculty and staff, ensuring accuracy and compliance.


Transaction Management & Compliance (25%)
  • Monitors and approves departmental expenditures and accounts to ensure compliance with policies, funding requirements, and budget alignment.
  • Reviews, prepares, and approves financial transactions, including journal entries, budget revisions, and AP/AR activity.
  • Ensures accuracy and integrity of financial data across systems such as SAP-S4, Concur, Jaggaer, and internal platforms.
  • Identifies discrepancies and implement corrective actions.


Process Improvement & Operational Efficiency (10%)
  • Supports the development and implementation of best practices in financial operations under the guidance of the senior manager.
  • Leads and participates in process improvement initiatives to streamline workflows, enhance reporting, and increase efficiency.


Liaison & Collaboration (10%)
  • Serves as the primary finance liaison between TCH leadership and central BCM finance teams.
  • Collaborates with internal and external partners to gather data, support financial initiatives, and achieve departmental objectives.


Additional Responsibilities (5%)
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance or a related field.
  • Four years of relevant experience.


Preferred Qualifications and Skills

  • Experience within Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) or a similar academic medical center environment.
