Senior Field Engineer

Department: Project Engineer

Employment Type: Full Time

Location: Delta, Utah

Description

The primary function of the Senior Field Engineer is to assist the Senior Project Superintendent, Project Superintendent, Assistant Project Superintendent or other assigned supervisor(s) in all matters related to field activities for a specific project.

Key Responsibilities

The duties, responsibilities and attributes of the Senior Field Engineer include, but are not limited to:

Technical Skills
  • Capable of being successful leading field activities related to assigned scopes and/or areas, with oversight from a more-senior staff member. Comfortable working with scopes of work totaling $1M - $10M, under various delivery methods, diverse market sectors, and varying complexities.
  • Assist with the initial preparation, ongoing maintenance, and distribution of construction schedules
  • Assist with the development, maintenance and enforcement of project site safety programs
  • Assist with the coordination and management of material deliveries
  • Assist with the implementation of SWPPP measures and documentation
  • Assist in maintaining a complete and accurate set of working documents pertaining to the project
  • Assist in the coordination of all field inspections and testing
  • Possess knowledge of all documents associated with the project
  • Assist in the initial preparation and the implementation of the project specific QA/QC program
  • Find practical solutions to field problems or conflicts found in the contract documents.
  • Find conflicts in the contract documents and issue a "Request for Information" (RFI) to the appropriate party/parties.
  • Capable of Project Engineer responsibilities, including drafting, routing, and closing of RFI's, Submittals, Meeting Minutes, etc.
  • Able to review and understand subcontract and Prime contract language.
  • Assist with the review and proper documentation of T&M tickets.
  • Able to utilize the coordinated Building Information Model (BIM) and associated shop-drawings to ensure work is installed correctly
  • Participate in trainings, including Superintendent Round Tables, Engineer Bootcamp, and Risk Management.


Management Skills
  • Assist with the development, implementation, and enforcement of project-specific Site Specific Quality Plan (SSQP)
  • Design project required mock-ups and work closely with appropriate stakeholders to obtain acceptance
  • Assist with all pre-installation meetings
  • Assist in the preparation and maintenance of eight-week look ahead schedules
  • Assist with coordination of all subcontractor activities
  • Assist with the documentation of all actions dealing with actual or possible claims/legal action
  • Assist in the oversight & Management of laborer responsibilities
  • Attend and document weekly Foreman meetings
  • Assist the Project superintendent(s) in providing safety orientation to all field workers prior to their start of work on site.
  • Capable of leading weekly On Site Safety Meeting(s), identify safety hazards on site, complete and implement the weekly site survey(s)
  • Understands and enforces WEO and Cal-OSHA safety standards
  • Collect and review and Safety Submittals from subcontractors - Injury and Illness Prevention Plans (IIPP), Job Hazard Analysis (JHA), Safety Data Sheet (SDS), etc.
  • Assist the Project Superintendent(s) with generating and issuing incident reports
  • Collects man counts and daily reports for each subcontractor on site. Writes concise, comprehensive descriptions of each day's work performed on site in WEO daily report
  • Capable of leading the timely completion of all punch lists and work completion lists
  • Capable of documenting and transmitting all punch list and work completion lists
  • Participate in acceptance walks with the Architect / Owner, as needed
  • Develop and implement the Owner training schedule for timely closeout. Ensure training is recorded and documented properly

Qualifications:
Completion of a four-year degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture or equivalent experience in a related field or 2-5 years minimum of relevant project field experience

Proficiency in basic computer skills (MS Word, Excel, Outlook)

Basic familiarity with Microsoft Project or Scheduling Software (P6) and Project Management Software, such as CMiC, Plangrid, Bluebeam or equivalent applications

Understanding of construction administration processes, including construction documents, schedules, RFIs, Submittals and material procurement.

Completion of OSHA 30-Hour Safety Course
First Aid and CPR certified

Physical Demands:
Performance of the required duties will require physical ability to climb permanent and temporary stairs, passenger use of construction personnel hoists, ability to climb ladders and negotiate work areas under construction. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Performing this job requires use of hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, sit, talk and hear, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works on-site at the construction work site where the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock.
