The Position ***This recruitment is promotional only***BASIC FUNCTIONUnder general direction, the Senior Family & Community Engagement Specialist (FACES) serves as a high-level practitioner and mentor within the Family and Community Engagement team. In addition to performing the standard duties of a Family and Community Engagement Specialist (FACES), this role provides strategic guidance and support to other FACE staff to ensure district-wide consistency and program effectiveness. The Senior FACES will work closely with the FACE Manager to support the implementation of the district's family and community engagement strategic goals; perform other related duties as assigned.
Employment Standards MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEDUCATION:
- Required: A Bachelor's degree with a major in communications, social services, career development, counseling, education, or a closely related field.
- Preferred: A Master's degree in a related field.
EXPERIENCE:
- Required: Three or more years of experience developing and administering parent training programs, facilitating school relationships with community groups, and connecting families with community service agencies.
- Preferred: Demonstrated experience in a Lead or Senior capacity, including project management or staff mentoring.
- Substitution: Additional experience may be substituted for the required education on a one year of experience for one year of education basis.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- License/Insurance Certification: Access to reliable transportation for job-related travel.
- Secondary Language: Positions in this classification are required to speak, read, and write fluently in a designated second language.

SPECIALIZED ESSENTIAL DUTIES:STRATEGIC & LEADERSHIP DUTIES
- Provides guidance and training to FACES staff regarding district policies, federal mandates, and best practices for Family & Community Engagement to ensure district-wide consistency.
- Provides organizational and planning support for district-wide summits, college and career fairs, community resource expos aligned with the Family and Community Engagement mission, and orientation events across feeder schools to ensure a seamless transition for incoming families.
- Leads district-wide logistical coordination for community schools-based events, including securing translation services, childcare coordination, and multi-site event support.
- Collaborates with the FACE Manager on public relations strategy for major events across social media, websites, and email blasts to maximize community turnout.
- Collaborates with staff to create informational and marketing materials, such as video tutorials and newsletters.
- Supports the volunteer application process by keeping an updated database of all volunteers and providing logistical assistance as needed.
McKINNEY-VENTO & FOSTER YOUTH DUTIES
- Serves as district point of contact for McKinney-Vento and Foster Youth (FY) compliance; consults with registrars to determine McKinney-Vento eligibility and rights regarding school of origin versus school of residence.
- Reaches out to community partners to solicit donations and partnerships; keeps inventory and organization of the donation storage bin; distributes school supply donations to families upon request.
- Attends and participates in Orange County Department of Education (OCDE), Anaheim, and homeless collaborative meetings; collaborates with feeder elementary and neighboring district liaisons.
- Assists with transportation needs for McKinney-Vento, Foster Youth, and other special circumstances; arranges transportation, including managing changes and cancellations.
- Monitors communication regarding incoming and outgoing Foster Youth; facilitates communication between social workers and OCDE liaisons; assists in verifying Foster Youth status between social workers and OCDE.
- Refers and connects families experiencing homelessness to housing and shelter agencies, and connects families to site FACES and other Community Schools staff.
- Serves as district point person to Orange County Transit Authority (OCTA); distributes OCTA bus passes/wave cards to school sites.
- Runs queries for updated Foster Youth and McKinney-Vento lists as requested by the FACE team and other departments.
- Pulls CalPADS reports and Foster Focus lists to cross-reference updated special group populations.
- Completes needs assessments with families to determine McKinney-Vento eligibility and housing situation.
- Tracks and organizes Mental Health forms; works with translators to convert forms into various languages and with IT to convert formats.
- Identifies students on AERIES with McKinney-Vento status; presents and guides registrars and new colleagues on identification procedures.
GENERAL ESSENTIAL DUTIES:- Participates in meetings (e.g. parent education programs) with students, parents, and community organizations regarding school programs and their relationship to the community.
- Collaborates in the formulation of educational goals and objectives utilizing the participation of parents, community members, and school personnel.
- Designs and implements programs and training that involve parents in school activities such as parent education programs, workshops, and social service programs.
- Provides program and logistical support to facilitators of state and federal county-wide parent meetings (PTSA, SSC, ELAC, DELAC, SPAC) by contributing to program content and coordinating translation services, arranging refreshments, etc.
- Meets with parent groups, school administrators, county officials, and social service providers to provide technical training about developing parent education programs.
- Creates training content, activities, and agendas for parent workshops and education programs; assists in developing modules for Parent Leadership Academy (PLA) and other similar workshops; maintains records of parent attendance at meetings and workshops.
- Publicizes parent events through newsletters, weekly announcements, school's website, and social media.
- Coordinates translation services and childcare to ensure parents have access to parent education events and services.
- Evaluates parent education programs and training; evaluates progress of parent skills and/or knowledge relevant to activities.
- Prepares agendas, takes notes, and prepares minutes following parent meetings.
- Identifies community resources; maintains records of resources.
- Networks and collaborates with community organizations and clubs.
- Makes referrals to community agencies for needs relating to counseling, welfare, housing, employment, and job training, or other social service agencies; directly connects families to community resources; assists parents/students with applications for community and education services and public transportation.
- Communicates school and district news, opportunities for parent involvement, and program goals by hosting information sessions, sending out email blasts, making phone calls, and/or circulating parent-focused newsletters.
- Collaborates with feeder schools to communicate information and plan events regarding family engagement activities such as orientations and other similar events.
- Prepares and delivers correspondence, notifications, and presentations in English and a designated secondary target language; assists in recording messages related to duties in the target language.
- Coordinates and assists in the facilitation of Mental Health and substance abuse awareness workshops for parents.
- Assists in the coordination of school site surveys (e.g., Heads Up Check Up, CHKS), including parent communication, survey creation, list distribution, and data tracking.
- Works with appropriate staff to create and distribute communications through the Qualtrics platform.
- Assists with Parent Engagement Events as part of the FACES team; participates in the facilitation of PEP workshops.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
