Job Overview

Responsible for planning, managing and executing facilities lead and supported projects across all Give & Go locations, while also providing technical support to Operations and Engineering to ensure business continuity of facilities systems / infrastructure. The role will assist with establishing standards, policies and procedures that will improve the Engineering Department's overall performance and respond to internal and external information requests.

Key Responsibilities
  • Responsible for project management across the various Give & Go facilities which involves the planning, managing and executing facilities lead and supported projects.
  • Create and manage project budgets and preliminary timelines and specifications for projects taking into account client request, management needs, technical requirements, budget limitations and building and safety codes
  • Using MS Project develop detailed project plans, manage project progress, and successfully resolve unexpected / unbudgeted issues that may affect the timing, quality and cost of the project and at the same time manage general contractors and client expectations
  • Analyze scope of projects and write RFP's / RFQ's for tender and hire consultants where required for new projects. This will include managing a purchasing committee in larger tender processes
  • Perform engineering calculations and design analysis / reviews as necessary
  • Manage 3rd party Architects and Engineers to develop specified Architectural and Engineering drawings for tender documents and analyze the accuracy and completeness of drawings and specifications for building / construction standards, coordination of specialities, construction and purchasing
  • Submit all government required documentation to timely obtain all permits required such as building permits, Ministry of Environment permits, site plan approval permits, etc.
  • In conjunction with Purchasing, manage the pricing and/or tendering of construction projects that range from small to multi-million dollar projects and manage costs to grant opportunities whenever possible
  • Oversee / manage all construction of a project and directly approve all change orders / invoices and manage budget costs and expectations
  • Monitor construction quality and adherence to codes, standards and drawings which may require 24 hours on call work to manage issues as they arise on site
  • Recommend / coordinate through approved suppliers the design and space usage of areas
  • Explore and research construction trends for possible application of new projects to improve construction quality / longevity and reduce / maintain costs.
  • Provide direction and leadership to the department and external service providers, and demonstrate behaviours consistent with Give & Go values
  • Hire and manage the performance of 3rd party Architects, Engineers, and contractors
  • Review quality of work and assigned projects, and establish work priorities, routines and procedures, and lead problem solving initiatives
  • Conduct employee training programs for continuous improvement and educating on new processes, technology, policies and building codes.
  • Coach, mentor, and support junior staff members as needed
  • Provide technical support to Operations and Engineering to ensure business continuity of facilities systems / infrastructure
  • Assist with establishing standards, policies and procedures that will improve the Engineering Department's overall performance
  • Respond to internal and external information requests
  • Ensure that all site drawings and standard specifications are updated when changes are made as a result of renovations, new additions or maintenance over time (i.e. building layouts, mechanical / electrical changes)
  • Support Health, Safety and Environment initiatives and arrange / generate re-start Health and Safety Reviews for projects / work as required
  • Organize project pre-start health & safety meetings with contractors and appropriate sub trades
  • Ensure MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheets) are submitted to HSE prior to specific work being done
  • Required to stop project / work if violations are evident
  • Notify Architects and HSE of removal or disturbance of a designated substance and verifies that the work is done to provincial legislation
  • Ensure information regarding the removal of designated substances is forwarded to HSE for database updating.


Recipe for Success - Qualifications
  • Completion 4-year Bachelor Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical or Civil Engineering.
  • Minimum 8 years of project management experience, managing the timely execution of multi-disciplinary projects, specifically related to infrastructure and facilities operations.
  • Experience within a regulated manufacturing industry (i.e. Pharmaceutical, etc)
  • Professional Engineering (P.Eng.) License in Province of Ontario
  • Excellent leadership and critical thinking skills
  • Strong project management skills, performing duties such as budgeting, cost tracking, creation of project charters / proposals / schedules, obtaining building permits, CSA / ESA / TSSA certifications, execution of Pre-Start Health and Safety Reviews and managing the timely execution of multi-disciplinary projects, specifically related to infrastructure and facilities operations
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills - ability to influence all levels of the organization to achieve goals and objectives, ability to build relationships across departments
  • Strong change management skills with experience implementing new processes, standards and procedures
  • Strong analytical skills including troubleshooting and root cause analysis, skills effective in leading teams to quickly identify issues, causes and sustainable corrective actions
  • Advanced working knowledge of facilities systems (HVAC, Electrical, Life Safety Systems, etc.)
  • Working knowledge and experience on regulations (GMP, WHMIS, Ministry of Labour, MOEE, etc)
  • Working knowledge of Ontario Building Code, Ontario Fire Code, Occupational Health & Safety Act, Canadian Safety Association (CSA), Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) and Electrical Safety Authority (ESA)
  • Understands and has experience with implementing Standard Industry Construction Tendering processes and use of Canadian Construction Documents Committee (CCDC) contracts
  • Proficient user of AutoCAD
  • Ability to interpret and generate facilities infrastructure, mechanical and electrical drawings and specifications
  • Must have excellent MS Office skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Understanding of technicality / functionality of facility / manufacturing equipment within Food or Bakery would be an asset
  • Must be able to handle fast paced environment with competing priorities and demands
