Summary

About the Position: This position serves as a Senior Exercise Planner for the Joint Activities located in Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

Duties

Help

  • Serve as a liaison officer interfacing with senior leadership in order to ensure the appropriate approvals are obtained and to de-conflict operations for real-world contingencies.
  • Coordinates with US country team and/or local representatives to identify potential exercise locations.
  • Briefs host nation and/or local authorities to obtain permission for conduct of exercise activities.
  • Lead and oversee special operations exercises, involving each of the Geographic Combatant Commanders (GCC) on a rotating basis.
  • Plans and executes a series of global readiness exercises and short duration emergency deployment readiness exercises that directly support COMJSOC requirements.
  • Provides regular exercise updates in the form of briefings, information papers and other product development for the COMJSOC, Director, and other senior leaders.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) and lead in the coordination and execution of complex exercises and operational rehearsals that include combatant commands and Staff.
  • Responsible for developing challenging and relevant exercise scenarios that incorporate intelligence threat assessments and CCMD contingency plans.
  • Develops the manning requirements for Joint Exercise Control Group (JECG) and target support locations.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret security clearance with access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI).
  • In accordance with Change 3 to AR 600-85, Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program, employee must successfully pass a urinalysis screening prior to appointment and periodically thereafter.
  • The incumbent may be required to work uncommon tour of duty hours, working either fixed or rotating shift which may include evenings, weekends and/or holidays.
  • May require TDY travel over more than 30 days to CONUS and OCONUS locations up to 30% of the time. This may require travel on military aircraft, ships and vehicles.
  • This position is deployable and may require extended TDY to OCONUS locations. This position requires a pre-employment physical and thereafter prior to OCONUS travel over 30 days.
  • This position requires a pre-employment deployable physical and thereafter prior to OCONUS travel over 30 days.
  • Lifting up to 75 lbs. in the regular performance of duties. A preemployment physical is required, and as needed thereafter.
  • May be subjected to short notice recall. Must reside within a 50-mile radius of duty location.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.

Specialized Experience GS-13: One year of specialized experience which includes assisting with planning readiness operations exercises; providing advice on exercise policies and procedures; and assisting in the development of new approaches to the exercise programs for the organization. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For the GS-13, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience aloneno substitution of education for experience is permitted

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12).
