Job Description:

This Senior Engineering Team Lead is within the site operations technology group. You will have the opportunity to shape new and current technology products by working with dealers, customers, commercial teams, engineering teams, and 3rd parties to create requirements and set product strategies. This role will lead advancements in safety product technologies, including the Driver Safety System (DSS), collision awareness and avoidance capabilities, and back-office applications. These technologies support operator vigilance, fatigue and distraction event detection, in-cab alerting, event visualization, data reporting, and integration with connected machine and site systems to help customers identify, mitigate, and manage safety risks across mining and construction operations.

What You Will Do:
  • Interface with commercial teams to understand customers needs to document them into commercial requirements; then translate those requirements to technical requirements for engineering teams.
  • Build relationships with 3rd party suppliers while ensuring and enforcing quality best practices in product quality.
  • Lead product development for Driver Safety System through New Product Introduction (NPI).
  • Drive engineering product development including but not limited to cost estimation, budget management, and product lifecycle R&D estimation.
  • Employ industry and internal security practices into product development to ensure Product Safety & Compliance throughout all aspects of engineering.
  • Collaborate cross functionally with Engineering, Commercial, Product Support and Supply Chain for ongoing development project.

    • Identifies dependencies and risk areas that may impact delivery, scalability, or adoption.
    • Ensures engineering planning is integrated with overall product and business planning processes.
  • Effective Communications
    • Communicates technical concepts effectively to engineering, business, and executive audiences.
    • Influences stakeholders through clarity, credibility, expertise, and data-supported recommendations.
    • Develops executive-level presentations, business cases, and strategic recommendations.
    • Maintains open communication across global teams and organizational boundaries.
    • Provides coaching and feedback to develop communication effectiveness within the team.
    • Effectively manages difficult discussions involving priorities, risk, technology strategy, and resource allocation.
  • Project Management
    • Champions organization's project management methodology, tools, and techniques.
    • Manages multiple high-risk, high-cost projects involving multiple stakeholders.
    • Coaches others in open communication among project stakeholders.
    • Monitors major projects for critical path and actual status versus planned.
    • Consults on project planning and management of high-risk, high-impact projects.
    • Monitors industry for fresh approaches and tools for project management.
  • Cross-Team Integration
    • Involves key stakeholders in upfront planning efforts.
    • Enlists formal and informal network contacts to improve collaboration among teams
    • Generates "win-win" strategies to gain support for key initiatives from others across boundaries.
    • Establishes ways to encourage teamwork across functions.
    • Coaches others on best methods for performing teamwork across organizational boundaries.
    • Recommends systems and technology to promote widespread collaboration.
  • Software Development Life Cycle
    • Monitors enterprise experience, recommends and institutes improvements.
    • Elaborates on the evolution of structured development methodologies.
    • Monitors industry and marketplace experience and direction of structured methodologies.
    • Demonstrates extensive experience with using life cycle methodologies to deliver software products.
    • Compares and contrasts multiple product development methodologies.
    • Leads the selection and implementation of vendor-specific or in-house methodologies.
  • Education Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field.


Consideration for Top Candidates:
  • Previous experience in the integration of electronic and mechanical systems.
  • Experience with Operator Safety technologies, in-cab monitoring systems, connected machine data, safety analytics, or other safety products.
  • Proven experience in Technical Leadership roles in Product Development teams.
  • Must have the ability to communicate technical information effectively with team members and others in the workgroup, as well as employees in other units, customers, and suppliers
  • 4+ years experience with the mining, construction or related industry preferred

  • This position requires the candidate to work full-time at the Mossville, IL or Tucson, AZ Office.

Summary Pay Range:

$147,760.00 - $221,640.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
