About the roleRippling is seeking a high-impact Engineering Manager (M8) to lead execution for our newly formed Money Movement & Treasury organization. While our Seattle hub focuses on next-generation ledger architecture, this team owns the reliability, scalability, and platformization of our orchestration and payment methods systems.
This is a critical role focused on building and operating the execution layer that powers global money movement. You will lead a foundational team of 6 engineers, with a clear mandate to scale both the team and the systems into a core pillar of Rippling's financial infrastructure.
We're looking for a hands-on, execution-focused leader who prioritizes system stability, operational rigor, and high-quality delivery in a fast-moving environment.
What you will do- Own the Execution Layer - Lead and scale a team focused on orchestration platformization and standardizing payment method components across geographies.
- Drive System Reliability - Own uptime and resilience for critical money movement systems, including self-healing orchestration, robust alerting, and graceful degradation across global payment flows.
- Set Technical and Product Priorities - Partner closely with Product to manage the roadmap, making clear tradeoffs between reliability, scalability, and feature development.
- Build Operational Excellence - Establish strong engineering fundamentals, including SLAs, runbooks, incident management, and on-call health, to support systems processing ~$100B in annual volume.
- Scale the Team and Surface Area - Define team structure, hiring strategy, and operating cadences to support rapid growth and increasing system complexity over time.
What you will need- 3+ years of experience managing backend or infrastructure engineering teams (typically 8-12+ engineers), with the ambition to grow into a Senior Manager/Director role
- Strong track record of building and operating reliable, high-scale distributed systems
- Deep ownership mindset around system reliability, operational excellence, and on-call health
- Experience in payments, orchestration systems, or high-throughput fintech platforms is strongly preferred
- Ability to operate with urgency, cut through ambiguity, and maintain a high bar for technical execution
