SummaryBell's AI Fabric initiative is pioneering a secure, sovereign AI compute network across Canada. This ambitious portfolio features seven large-scale, high-density data centers, anchored by a 500 MW British Columbia supercluster and a 300 MW flagship site in Regina, Saskatchewan.
As Senior Engineering Manager, Data Centre, you will lead a team of mechanical and electrical engineering professionals responsible for translating design standards into resilient, high-performance infrastructure. Reporting into the Director, Data Centre Strategy and Program Management, you'll own day-to-day engineering deliverables across design, capacity planning, and resiliency-working closely with construction, operations, architecture, and external partners to build the systems that underpin Bell's AI ambitions.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and manage a team of mechanical and electrical engineers, overseeing their technical deliverables, workload, and professional development.
- Own engineering design deliverables for data centre M&E systems-power distribution, UPS, generators, chilled water, high-density/liquid cooling, and controls.
- Develop and maintain design standards, specifications, and engineering documentation to ensure consistency and mission-critical quality across builds.
- Support capacity planning, load modeling, and resiliency/redundancy analysis to meet current and future AI/GPU high-density compute requirements.
- Review and coordinate A/E and vendor engineering packages, including LOD design classification and detailed engineering handoffs to the GC.
- Partner with construction and commissioning teams to support constructability reviews, RFIs, and issue resolution during design and build phases.
- Contribute to commissioning (Cx) planning and validation of power, cooling, and resiliency systems ahead of operational handover.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with operations, architecture, network engineering, program controls, and external partners to align engineering with delivery.
- Support sustainability and long-term infrastructure roadmap initiatives, embedding efficiency and resiliency into design decisions.
- Manage engineering risk, change, and technical documentation, escalating issues to the Director, Data Centre Strategy and Program Management as needed.
Critical Qualifications- 8+ years of mechanical or electrical engineering experience, with direct exposure to data centre or mission-critical facility design (hyperscale/high-density preferred).
- Prior people-leadership or team-lead experience managing engineers or technical staff.
- Strong technical depth in data centre M&E systems-power, cooling (including liquid/high-density), redundancy, and resiliency.
- Solid understanding of design standards development, capacity planning, and load modeling.
- Familiarity with commissioning processes, LOD design classification, and A/E-to-GC engineering handoffs.
- Proficiency with engineering design and modeling tools relevant to M&E systems.
- Strong coordination skills across construction, operations, architecture, and external partners.
- Effective at managing multiple priorities and deliverables in a fast-scaling, build-from-zero environment.
- Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or related Engineering discipline; P.Eng. (or eligibility) strongly preferred.
- Willingness to be on-site and travel between Canadian build locations as the portfolio scales.
Adequate knowledge of French is required for positions in Quebec.
