JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Opportunity

This position is an onsite opportunity in the Abbott Diabetes Care Division. We are helping people with Diabetes lead healthier, happier lives. Consistent and accurate glucose monitoring is the foundation of any diabetes management plan, so we're committed to continuous improvement in the way patients and professionals measure, track and analyze glucose levels.

As a Senior Engineering Manager, you will Oversee overall operations engineering activities at a manufacturing site(s). Ensure products are manufactured consistently, based on Abbott quality standards to meet market demands. This is an onsite opportunity in Buffalo Grove, IL or Austin, TX.

What You'll Do
  • Leads end-to-end project management to ensure projects are executed on time and within budget.
  • Ensures the performance, output, and continuous improvement of a significant number of fully and/or partly automated lines/processes.
  • Oversees and manages all operations engineering activities across multiple product lines and shifts at a manufacturer site(s).
  • Anticipates and resolves high-level issues and conflicts impacting operations success.
  • Makes difficult decisions regarding priorities among projects / programs.
  • Anticipates and identifies areas of strategic and tactical risk, mitigating risks through early risk assessment and mitigation strategies.
  • Sets and monitors performance and value indicators, leading project audits (scope, schedule, quality, cost) and adjusting as required.
  • Accountable for operational efficiencies and optimisations into manufacturing processes
  • Initiates and cultivates open, honest relationships with colleagues, customers, contractors, and vendors by establishing rapport, developing an understanding of others' needs, promoting common goals, and following through on commitments.
  • Drive department financial budget planning and generation of multi-year planning.
  • Hires, retains, and develops a diverse, highly qualified engineering team; provide ongoing performance feedback, coaching, and mentoring.
  • Support the development of new and existing products, materials, and manufacturing processes to enhance efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
  • Leads cross-functional relationships with R&D, Quality, Clinical, Regulatory, and other departments to meet quality, cost, and supply chain objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with FDA, GMP, and other regulatory requirements by developing, implementing, and monitoring systems and procedures.
  • Uphold company initiatives and ensure compliance with Quality Management Systems (QMS), Environmental Management Systems (EMS), and Environmental, Health & Safety requirements.


Experience You'll Bring

Required
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, science, or closely related discipline is desired, or equivalent technical experience plus demonstrated competence or an equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • Minimum 8 years of Significant engineering, project management, and / or operational experience
  • Extensive experience managing operations engineering activities at a manufacturer site, preferably in a highly regulated industry.
  • Proven track record of leading large-scale, automated manufacturing lines with a focus on performance and continuous improvement.
  • Experience in team management, including hiring, development, and succession planning for a diverse engineering workforce.
  • Lead various large, complex project activity components (development of scope, schedule, budgets, risk register, etc.).
  • A career history marked by a consistent series of significant contributions and accomplishments.
  • Strong knowledge of FDA, GMP, Environmental, Health & Safety regulations, and Quality Management Systems (QMS) and Environmental Management Systems (EMS).
  • Deep understanding of automated manufacturing processes, especially within the context of manufacturing site.
  • Expertise in project management, including budgeting, scheduling, and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Leadership skills in building, managing, and developing high-performing engineering teams.
  • Familiarity with strategic planning and implementation within a global, matrixed organization.
  • Listens to and understands others' points of view and articulates tactfully and respectfully one's own perspective orally, in writing, and in presentations.
  • Demonstrated ability to present and get buy in of upper management for major programs.
  • Possesses interpersonal skills to negotiate and reconcile differences, while optimizing overall divisional goals.
  • A technical background in health care, nutritional products, laboratory diagnostics, medical devices, or pharmaceutical companies.
