The Department of Financial Services is seeking candidates for the position of Assistant Counsel in the Civil Investigations Unit. Duties include, but are not limited to, the following: • Leads and works on investigations of potential violations of the Financial Services, Insurance, and Banking laws, and other state and federal laws; work includes requesting and reviewing productions, legal research, evaluating evidence, taking testimony, negotiating settlements with opposing counsel, and preparing for and conducting administrative hearings; • Investigates complaints filed with the Department by consumers and consumer groups and recommends appropriate action; • Proposes and develops new areas and subjects for investigation; • Reviews proposed legislation and regulations and the implementation of passed legislation and adopted regulations; • Provides legal advice on matters regarding regulatory actions and develops legal approaches to accomplish various departmental objectives; • Conducts special studies and research about issues and programs of interest to the Division and prepares reports and recommendations as assigned; and • Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Preferred Qualifications • Admission to the New York State bar in good standing; • At least 4 years of post-bar legal experience in the finance or banking industry; Appointment Method: This is an appointment to a position in the exempt jurisdictional class. As such, the incumbent of this position would serve at the pleasure of the appointing authority.
