Role DescriptionForm Energy is hiring a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our Test Infrastructure team. In this role you will be responsible for the design and delivery of test equipment that manages our battery infrastructure, keeping our engineers and technicians safe and collecting critical operating data as we execute critical tests on our iron-air battery systems.
The scope of your work will include the electromechanical and software design for several systems, including airflow management, electrolyte handling, high-power distribution, hydrogen management, control systems, etc.
A key focus of this role will be supporting the infrastructure that tests individual battery cells. This includes designing and building control panels, wire harnessing, selecting sensors, and testing novel control loops.
This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the scaling of our battery technology and be part of the growth of a fast-moving company with breakthrough technology and an incredible mission!
What you'll do:- Design, build, and deploy custom electrical test equipment supporting battery and ancillary hardware testing.
- Develop test systems ranging from benchtop setups to fully integrated automated machines.
- Tune control loops for each of our battery's auxiliary support systems, including airflow systems, caustic fluid handling, and high power systems.
- Select sensors, fans and actuators to support new versions of our battery control systems.
- Collaborate with product design and test operations teams to define test infrastructure requirements and translate them into practical solutions.
- Work closely with the technician builds team to quickly and effectively build out new control systems and process control hardware.
- Specify and integrate sensors, instrumentation, data acquisition, and control systems into test equipment.
- Contribute to the software development of test beds, including control, automation, and data acquisition functionality.
- Ensure equipment designs meet safety, reliability, and compliance standards for high-power and hazardous systems.
- Document test system designs, usage guidelines, and validation procedures.
- Support troubleshooting, maintenance, and continuous improvement of deployed test infrastructure.
What you'll bring:- 4+ years of experience in electrical design and/or test equipment development (battery or energy systems experience is a plus).
- BS or MS in, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- Proficiency with eCAD tools for PCB, control panel and harness designs.
- Proficiency with mCAD tools for fixture designs.
- Familiarity with programming PLC or microcontroller-based control systems, including writing the core control code.
- Hands-on experience with sensors, power electronics, data acquisition, and control systems.
- Strong understanding of safety and compliance considerations in high-power and/or chemical environments.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to balance speed, rigor, and safety.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment.
