Responsibilities

NASA's Sounding Rocket Operations Contract (NSROC) is a suborbital spaceflight program located at NASA's Wallops Flight Facility (WFF), part of NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC). NSROC provides suborbital launch vehicles, payload development, and field operations support to NASA's Science Mission Directorate, enabling Earth, Heliophysics, and Astrophysics research.

Peraton is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to support the NSROC program at Wallops Flight Facility, Wallops Island, VA. As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you will support the design, testing, and field operations of sounding rocket power distribution systems. This role involves researching, developing, designing, and testing electrical components, equipment, and systems using established electrical engineering principles.

Key Responsibilities
  • Produce and present technical material for internal and external customer meetings.
  • Design special-purpose circuits to:
    • Monitor vehicle or payload events
    • Establish compatible voltage or impedance levels
    • Perform in-flight electrical functions
  • Utilize ground support equipment to test power system components.
  • Apply technical knowledge of battery systems, including NiCad and Li-ion technologies.
  • Understand and support battery charging systems and methodologies.
  • Manage activities required to meet objectives of assigned design and development projects.
  • Design, test, and support Class 1.3 and 1.4 ordnance activation systems.

Required Training
  • Electrostatic Discharge (ESD)
  • Quality Management System (QMS)
  • Ordnance Handling

Travel
  • Approximately 2 months per year.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering.
  • Five years or more of experience with electrical components or subsystems.
  • Familiarity with electrical test instrumentation, including:
    • Power supplies
    • Digital multimeters (DMMs)
    • Oscilloscopes
    • Spectrum analyzers
    • Network analyzers
  • Ability to understand and follow detailed technical procedures.
  • Must be a US Citizen and the ability to obtain a NASA PIV badge.


Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience in analysis, design, and development of electrical systems.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with electrical test equipment and components such as:
    • Microcontrollers
    • PLDs
    • DSPs
  • Experience with Ground Data Systems.
  • Experience with networked data acquisition systems.
  • Experience working with Class 1.3 and 1.4 ordnance.
  • Familiarity with ESD practices.


Target Salary Range

$80,000 - $128,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual's experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
