Dewberry’s Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, and Structural (MEPS) team includes many offices & staff organized into a MEPS service line focused on nationwide clients in specialized facility types and specialized MEPS design services. Because our backlog continues to grow and the demand for our expertise is accelerating, we are seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our Birmingham, AL office. The overriding responsibility will be providing technical guidance and training/mentoring of our design resources in all areas of project work we do associated with electrical engineering. Assist the Project/Client Managers by providing technical guidance to help meet the client’s desires and budget. Work with a team of engineers on a variety of private, public, and federal projects. In addition to working with electrical engineers, this individual will team with architectural, mechanical, structural, and other disciplines to provide full-range services to our local and regional clients. In short, provide technical guidance associated with electrical requirements to accomplish our commitments. Will report to the Electrical Discipline Manager.

 

Our service line contains subject matter experts (SME), many of whom are in leadership roles in international professional organizations.  Our repeat clients include universities, healthcare systems, state, local, and federal government agencies, and large global industrial manufacturers, among others. Our service line is currently ranked #35 nationally among MEP Giants.

  

Responsibilities

The Senior Electrical Engineer would be expected to provide the following to others on the design team to effectively and successfully complete projects:

    • Technical guidance and quality oversight, including code review, of all project work involving electrical engineering.
    • Technical training and development of staff.
    • Assist in establishing and improving standards, practices, guidelines, and specifications for electrical discipline area.
    • Engineer of Record.
    • Provide 'on-the-spot' advice and decisions - technical and cost estimates.
    • Coordination with all the disciplines involved, including outside consultants.
    • Technical interface with code officials and contractors.
Required Skills & Required Experience
    • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) or ability to obtain licensure through reciprocity (example through Comity) within the State in which the position is posted within six (6) months.
    • Accomplished electrical engineer.
    • 7+ years of progressive technical experience in the design of power distribution, multiple generator powerhouses, multi-building medium voltage campus distribution, fault studies, selective overcurrent coordination studies, load flow studies, arc flash studies, lighting, life safety, and telecommunications systems on healthcare and commercial projects.
    • Experience should include management of multiple projects with proven success providing technical oversight on projects that meet contract specifications and technical standards to the client on time and within budget.
    • Self-motivated with highly developed verbal, written and interpersonal skills.
    • Well organized, takes good notes.
