Full Job Description
The role:

As a Senior Electrical Engineer at Coram AI, you'll own the electrical design of our next-generation edge-AI devices: cameras, intercoms, door readers, and access control hardware. You'll take embedded SoCs from vendors like Ambarella and NXP, start from their reference designs, and turn them into shippable products that run inference at the edge in rugged, real-world environments. You'll carry boards from schematic through layout, bring-up, validation, and production, and you'll own the embedded platform that runs on them. You'll take ideas from concept through production, shaping how our hardware scales globally.
Responsibilities:
  • Own board design end to end: architecture, component selection, schematic capture, PCB layout, and design reviews for edge-inferencing cameras, intercoms, door readers, and access control hardware
  • Evaluate embedded chipsets, work from vendor reference designs and EVKs, and adapt them into production designs that meet our cost, power, and form-factor targets
  • Own board bring-up and validation: power sequencing, signal integrity, sensor and peripheral bring-up, functional test development, and EMC/regulatory pre-compliance
  • Own the embedded platform on your boards: BSP, bootloader, device trees, drivers, and the base image, so the hardware you design boots, streams, and updates in the field
  • Design for the environments our products live in: PoE power budgets, surge and ESD protection, audio paths for intercoms, reader and controller interfaces (OSDP, Wiegand, RS-485), and thermal behavior inside sealed enclosures
  • Own the full product lifecycle from prototype through EVT/DVT/PVT, vendor handoff, and field deployment
  • Manage vendor and supplier relationships to ensure on-time, high-quality delivery
  • Be a proactive self-starter: take initiative, act with urgency, and bring a scrappy, hands-on approach to problem solving in fast-moving environments

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • 5+ years of experience in hardware product development with at least one product shipped at volume
  • Strong schematic capture and PCB layout proficiency (Altium or equivalent), including high-speed digital design: DDR/LPDDR, MIPI CSI-2, USB, Ethernet, and PoE
  • Hands-on lab and bring-up skills: you're at home with a scope, logic analyzer, and a board that won't boot
  • Working embedded software competence: C, embedded Linux (Yocto or Buildroot), U-Boot, device trees, and enough driver fluency to debug across the hardware/software boundary
  • Proven DFM experience and a track record of working with contract manufacturers through NPI
  • Resilient in challenging and fast-paced environments
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to influence at all levels
  • Ability to work in an onsite environment - we move quicker when we're in the same room
Nice-to-haves:
  • Direct experience shipping products on Ambarella (CVx) or NXP (i.MX) platforms is a huge plus
  • Camera and imaging experience: sensor selection and integration, ISP tuning, IR illumination, lens and module tradeoffs
  • Access control or Intercom domain experience: credential readers (NFC/BLE), secure elements, microphone and speaker design, echo cancellation
  • Regulatory and compliance experience: FCC/CE, UL, and IP/IK-rated enclosure design
  • Chinese proficiency and experience leading vendor engagement or manufacturing with partners in Taiwan and China
  • Strong hands-on prototyping instincts with the ability to translate ideas into physical proofs of concept and iterate fast
  • Ability to take projects from half-baked idea to working hardware without waiting for direction
What we offer:
  • Competitive compensation package (base salary + variable compensation)
  • 100% Employer-paid medical, dental, vision, and base life insurance
  • Flexible paid time off and 9 paid holidays
  • 401(k) with both Traditional and Roth options
  • Equity in a rapidly growing company
  • Referral bonuses
  • Daily team dinners and regular team off-sites to build connection and momentum
  • The latest Apple tech and unlimited tools so you can win
