Role Overview:

CHAOS is seeking a Senior Electrical Test Systems Engineer to design, build, and maintain Special Test Equipment (STE), Ground Support Equipment (GSE), and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) infrastructure used to develop, integrate, test, and validate advanced sensor, avionics, and embedded systems in R&D, production, and field environments.

This role is responsible for the electrical architecture, integration, and sustainment of automated test racks, interface test adapters (ITAs), cable assemblies, instrumentation, and subsystem interconnects. The ideal candidate has experience developing complex electronic test systems using commercial instrumentation and industry-standard interfaces within aerospace, defense, or high-performance embedded system environments.

This is a full-time, on-site position in El Segundo, CA.

Responsibilities:
  • Design, develop, integrate, and sustain automated STE/GSE systems for sensor, avionics, and embedded hardware platforms
  • Architect test racks, interface test adapters (ITAs), cable assemblies, subsystem interconnects, and instrumentation interfaces
  • Integrate and troubleshoot commercial test equipment including oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, VNAs, DMMs, and switching systems
  • Support hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) and subsystem integration test environments for R&D and production programs
  • Define electrical architectures including power distribution, grounding, signal conditioning, instrumentation, and interface control
  • Develop electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, rack layouts, and technical documentation
  • Collaborate with software, systems, RF, electro-optical, mechanical, and production engineering teams to develop automated test solutions
  • Support automated verification, validation, acceptance testing, and production test activities
  • Perform troubleshooting, root cause corrective action (RCCA), integration, and test execution for complex hardware/software systems
  • Support deployment, sustainment, and continuous improvement of lab, production, and fielded test systems

Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related STEM discipline
  • 5+ years of experience designing electrical test systems or automated test equipment
  • Experience designing STE, GSE, ATE, or HIL systems for aerospace, defense, or embedded hardware applications
  • Experience integrating and automating commercial test equipment using SCPI, Ethernet, Serial, USB, or GPIB interfaces
  • Practical experience with modular test platforms such as PXIe, LXI, or VXI
  • Experience with interface test adapters (ITAs), cable/harness design, and subsystem integration
  • Understanding of electrical interfaces including Ethernet, Serial, USB, LVDS, SPI, I2C, CAN, and discrete I/O
  • Familiarity with RF, EO/IR, avionics, radar, or embedded electronic systems
  • Experience developing electrical schematics and hardware documentation using ECAD tools
  • Experience debugging complex mixed-signal, embedded, RF, or avionics systems at subsystem and system level
  • Familiarity working with automated test environments and software automation teams
  • Strong hands-on laboratory and hardware integration experience
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance

Preferred Requirements:
  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
  • Experience supporting RF/radar or EO/IR sensor integration and test
  • Experience with rack-level system design including power, cooling, grounding, and EMI/EMC considerations
  • Experience with high-speed digital, analog, and RF measurement systems
  • Familiarity with Python-based test automation and instrumentation control
  • Experience supporting high-rate manufacturing or production test environments
  • Experience supporting deployed or customer-facing GSE systems
  • Familiarity with military or aerospace standards and environmental test practices
