GEI has an exciting opportunity for a senior-level ecological restoration specialist to join our close-knit and collaborative environmental practice in Sacramento, California. We are seeking someone who is passionate about ecological restoration, thrives in a collaborative team environment, and is ready to contribute to projects that result in meaningful positive change. This role involves pursuing and executing challenging and meaningful ecological restoration and conservation projects throughout California, with an emphasis in the Central Valley, Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta, Bay Area, and Sierra Nevadas. As part of our multidisciplinary project teams, the ideal candidate will serve an important role winning, leading, and managing projects; interfacing with existing and new clients to ensure their project needs are met; overseeing development of ecological restoration plans, natural resource management plans, and other technical documents; and working as part of our ecological restoration team to solve an array of water and environmental issues critical to California's ecosystems. Projects will range from statewide conservation initiatives to regional ecological restoration planning to site-specific habitat restoration design and implementation. Essential Responsibilities & Duties

• Lead and manage preparation of ecological restoration conceptual plans, construction drawings, specifications, and cost estimates.
• Lead and manage preparation of habitat mitigation and monitoring plans, long-term adaptive management plans, and conservation plans.
• Lead and manage construction and implementation of ecological restoration projects including but not limited to - native tree and shrub planting, seeding, erosion control measure installation, invasive species control, etc.
• Serve as Project Director, Project Manager, and/or Task Leader and manage the technical, financial, and client relationship aspects of projects.
• Translate technical data and knowledge of natural systems into easy-to-comprehend concepts and visual tools that help people understand design intent and a project's purpose and goals.
• Oversee staff conducting plant/wildlife/habitat field surveys, biological literature research, mapping of biological resources, compliance with environmental regulations, and report writing.
• Oversee staff conducting habitat mapping and assessments and surveys for special-status species and other sensitive biological resources at numerous sites throughout northern California and the Central Valley.
• Work closely and collaboratively with other project environmental specialists, engineers, planners, project managers, and project directors to execute projects effectively and efficiently.
• Strategically identify new leads for ecological restoration and natural resource management work; plan, lead, manage, and prepare proposals and statements of qualification to obtain new work; participate in interviews; win competitive work; maintain strong client relationships to obtain sole source work; and participate in regional/office planning and initiatives to implement key growth initiatives, expand environmental services, and effectively serve existing and new clients.
• Maintain high visibility in the marketplace through regular client contact, maintaining strong client relationships, participating in professional organizations, and making presentations at client and industry events.
• Mentor and develop staff and serve as a role model for leadership, company culture, and values within the region.

Minimum Qualifications

• BA, BS, MA, MS, or Ph.D. in Life Sciences (Ecology, Environmental Science, Botany, Biology, Fisheries, Forestry), Landscape Architecture, Environmental Engineering, or other natural or physical sciences from an accredited college or university.
• 15 years of relevant experience with increasing responsibilities for pursuing, managing, and executing ecological restoration, habitat mitigation, and natural resource management projects.
• Five years of experience identifying and winning new work, including capture planning and leading proposal teams, and preferably growing/building teams.
• Experience planning, designing, and implementing various types of habitat restoration projects including habitat mitigation, invasive species control, and river and stream channel restoration.
• Field experience working in one or more of the following: riverine/floodplain, riparian, wetland, tidal marsh, and native grassland/prairie habitats.
• Native plant identification skills and knowledge of California plant communities.
• Invasive species identification skills and knowledge of integrated vegetation management methods.
• Experience writing natural resource and land management plans, mitigation monitoring plans, and adaptive management plans.
• Outstanding problem-solving, organization, coordination, writing, people, and verbal communication skills; solid work ethic; and ability to work independently and as part of multidisciplinary teams.
• Knowledge of federal and state laws, regulations and policies that govern natural resources in California.
