Under broad guidance provides technical leadership and architectural direction for the full lifecycle of network and
security systems. This role applies deep technical expertise in networking and security systems, and leads Systemwide
medium to large-scale critical projects.
Examples of Typical Tasks:
1. Provides technical leadership and architectural direction for the planning, design, configuration, and deployment of
secure, scalable, enterprise network systems.
2. Leads the optimization, performance and capacity reviews of network services, and the troubleshooting of various
enterprise network/security technologies.
3. Leads medium to large-scale network projects from planning through implementation.
4. Directs the technical oversight and support for the availability of network services, including design, implementation, administration, support and optimization of enterprise internetworking devices, including firewalls, routers, switches, security devices, and all supporting network fabric.
5. Leads the optimization of enterprise network management and monitoring utilities.
6. Oversees administration of network Infrastructure resources, including coordination with vendors, dependent
services, and enterprise engineering.
7. Defines and enforces standard configurations for the installation of all network devices.
8. Provides oversight over IT inventory databases, including Configuration Management Database and National
Incident Management Systems.
9. Provides oversight over the operation and maintenance of networks, tracks significant problems, monitors
performance and upgrades to hardware and software.
10. Follows established organization change management procedures, and internal processes.
11. Defines and maintains documentation for network configurations, operating procedures, and service records.
12. Provides oversight over the engineering and implementation of network infrastructure modifications in collaboration with internal business unit and external vendors to support strategic initiatives.
13. Resolves complex and escalated incidents and request tickets, performing root cause analysis for problem
resolution.
14. Ensures compliance with all relevant regulations and audit requirements.
15. Serves as the principal trainer of junior engineers.
16. Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum QualificationsAssignment Qualification Requirements:
1. Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, applied Mathematics, Business Administration, Economics/Statistics, Telecommunications, Data Communications, or related discipline; and,
2. Five (5) years of progressive, responsible experience in data processing, computer systems, and applications.
3. Broad knowledge and expertise in the characteristics of computers, peripheral devices, communications systems and hardware capabilities, programming languages, E.D.P. applications, systems analysis methodology, data management and retrieval techniques; or,
4. A satisfactory equivalent combination of training, education, and experience.
Assignment Qualification Preferences:
1. Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, applied Mathematics, Business Administration, Economics/Statistics, Telecommunications, Data Communications, or related discipline; and,
2. Seven (7) years of progressive, responsible experience in Networking and/or Network Design experience, including two (2) years in a responsible administrative, managerial or supervisory capacity; or
3. A satisfactory equivalent combination of training, education, and experience.
Preferred Knowledge Areas, Skills, Abilities, and other Characteristics:
1. Certification in Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNA) and/or Cisco Certified Design Professional (CCDA).
2. Knowledge of switches, routers, Virtual Private Network, Voice over Internet Protocol, and wireless systems.
3. In-depth and up-to-date knowledge of System Network design and management.
