Full Job Description
Koniag IT Systems LLC, a Koniag Government Services company, is seeking a Senior Network Engineer to support KITS and our government customer in Washington, DC. This is a hybrid opportunity that requires 3 days on-site and 2 days remote.

We are looking for a highly qualified, experienced and self-motivated individual to perform the duties of a Senior Network Engineer to support a potential future business opportunity located in Washington, DC.

The ideal Sr. Network Engineer will:
Provides senior-level support for the design, implementation, and optimization of complex network systems. This position leads engineering initiatives, manages major network projects, and ensures the reliability, scalability, and security of enterprise network infrastructure. The role requires extensive experience in network design, architecture, and advanced troubleshooting, as well as leadership in network process improvement and documentation.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Research, design, and implement advanced network and security solutions.
  • Administer and manage firewall security appliances and related access policies.
  • Develop, review, and implement network disaster recovery and continuity plans.
  • Create and maintain conceptual designs, schedules, and cost estimates for network systems.
  • Conduct design reviews to ensure quality, compliance, and scalability.
  • Develop and implement quality assurance and quality control plans for network maintenance.
  • Analyze and resolve complex network performance or connectivity issues.
  • Lead optimization efforts by monitoring, tuning, and refining network performance.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior network staff.
  • Keep management informed of emerging technologies and evolving network standards.
  • Generate procedures and documentation to ensure network reliability and security compliance.
  • Apply advanced knowledge of protocols, routing, VLANs, VPNs, and multicast technologies.

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Network Engineering, or related discipline (4 years of experience can replace this requirement).
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in network design, administration, and engineering.
  • Demonstrated experience leading network infrastructure or security projects.

Required Skills and Competencies:
  • Expert-level understanding of routing, switching, firewall configuration, and network segmentation.
  • Proven experience with large-scale network architecture and performance tuning.
  • Strong command of network security concepts and tools.
  • Advanced knowledge of VLANs, VPNs, subnets, multicast, and QoS.
  • Ability to develop and implement policies, procedures, and documentation at the enterprise level.

Desired Skills and Competencies:
  • Advanced certifications such as CCNP, CCIE, JNCIP, or equivalent.
  • Experience with SDN, VMWare / virtualized environments, cloud networking, and hybrid infrastructure environments.
  • Proficiency in network automation or orchestration tools (e.g., Ansible, Python scripting).
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills for cross-functional collaboration.
