What is the Opportunity?

The Senior Director, Strategic Planning & Business Management is a senior, strategic role, reporting directly to the Senior Vice President, Office of the CEO (SVP CEO) and working in close partnership with RBC Thought Leadership Team, as well as colleagues across the organization.

This role serves as a strategic integrator for RBC Thought Leadership, helping unlock executive effectiveness and accelerate organizational impact through strategy development, operational coordination, and cultural leadership. Responsible for translating strategy into business priorities with measurable outcomes, while also continuing to transform how we work across RBC Thought Leadership. The ideal candidate will combine strong strategic thinking with operational excellence, driving portfolio performance through disciplined governance, senior leadership, and a culture of innovation and accountability.

What will you do?

Strategic Planning
  • Strategic leadership of the RBC Thought Leadership team to ensure workflow, convening, engaging and publishing is in line with the overall strategic enterprise goals and external communication.
  • Develop and negotiate external partnerships with key industry partners such as Eurasia Group, CANZA, BHER
  • Lead Executive strategy and planning, to continue to build the RBC CEO Council, the Dock, the First Nation's leadership roundtable, Eurasia Group summit
  • Develop and maintain robust governance arrangements, decision making procedures, organizational structure, internal control mechanisms and effective internal reporting procedures.
  • Develop and maintain robust business continuity plans/preparedness and coordinate response efforts as required.


Business Management
  • Develop and manage the RBC Thought Leadership annual plan.
  • Management of engagement at all levels with all RBC Thought Leadership teams, holding decision authority in absence of SVP
  • Production of key management reporting for use at senior management meetings
  • Organization of RBC Thought Leadership activities and planning to achieve expected targets and standards in relation to RBC Blueprint Behaviors and Values
  • Create vision for RBC Thought Leadership that leverages the organization's strength and builds on its competitive advantage
  • Leads and is accountable for recommendations that enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of the business line. Recommendations to focus on new initiatives, enhanced capabilities or cost management, in alignment with overall RBC Thought Leadership strategic priorities.


What do you need to succeed?

Must have:
  • Extensive experience, particularly in strategy and business management type roles, with a proven track record of driving to impact within a matrixed organization
  • High professional maturity, emotional intelligence, comfort navigating ambiguity and conceptual thinker with ability to grasp broader issues quickly
  • Strong executive presence & impact and influence skills
  • Collaborative work style and excellent interpersonal skills with ability to maintain relationships at various level within the organization
  • Active listener, respectfully challenges, negotiates & influences outcomes, with a collaborative OneRBC approach
  • Previous cross-functional project implementation experience, including strong grasp of technology, operations and digital
  • Strong written and oral presentation skills and presence; strong technical ability with PowerPoint, Excel and Word; and strong business & financial acumen
  • High level of initiative, motivation and inspires those around them
  • Strong people leadership skills
