Full Job Description

ROLE SUMMARY

This role owns global product accountability for one or more lead enterprise AI and digital products serving Medical Affairs globally — spanning Oncology, International, and enterprise-wide capabilities, and representing a multi-million-dollar portfolio of AI investment. The Senior Director, Product Management is the single point of accountability for a product's full lifecycle: from opportunity identification and business case, through requirements definition, roadmap sequencing, and delivery, to scaled global deployment and post-launch value realization.

This is a peer role to the Senior Director, Solution Architecture and the Senior Director, Engineering — together forming the leadership structure driving the Medical AI Acceleration portfolio: Product Management defines what gets built and why, Architecture defines how it is built, and Engineering builds and deploys it. Prioritization decisions made in this role directly determine where architectural and engineering investment is spent, giving this role primary influence over the return generated on the portfolio's technology investment. Success is measured in adoption, business value, and outcome impact.

This position routinely engages VP- and SVP-level stakeholders — including the Head of US Medical Affairs, Therapeutic Area/Category Leads, Field Medical Leads, MEI Lead, MEI Platform Leads and Compliance and Legal Leads — across global Medical Affairs, Digital Technology, and Commercial functions to negotiate priorities, resolve conflicting business needs, and secure alignment on product direction. It requires the ability to operate with significant autonomy against ambiguous, competing stakeholder demands, and the executive presence to influence senior leaders who do not report into this role.

Pfizer's Medical Affairs organization is scaling a portfolio of enterprise AI and digital products designed to transform how medical strategy, evidence generation, and field engagement operate. The Senior Director, Product Management will lead one or more of these products end-to-end — translating complex, often competing business needs from a broad and senior global stakeholder base into a coherent product vision, a prioritized roadmap, and well-defined feature, product and technical requirements that delivery teams can build against. This is a strategic, business-facing role that determines what gets built and why.  It also requires strong knowledge of digital technology and how solutions are built and deployed.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

Product Strategy & Roadmap Ownership

  • Own the end-to-end product vision, strategy, and roadmap for one or more global Medical Affairs AI/digital products, from initial ideation through scaled global deployment.

  • Serve as the implementation lead for developing global products, engaging a team of broad stakeholders from across Medical Affairs and reporting progress to Air Traffic Control.

  • Translate enterprise and Medical Affairs strategic priorities into a product strategy with clear value hypotheses, target outcomes, and success metrics.

  • Continuously evaluate therapeutic area, market and regulatory trends (e.g., HTA, EU AI Act) to keep the roadmap ahead of business need.

  • Collaborate with Commercial product leads to define integration points to Commercially led products.

Stakeholder Engagement & Requirements Translation

  • Serve as the primary product point of contact for a broad, senior stakeholder base across global Medical Affairs, Oncology, International, and adjacent functions.

  • Elicit, synthesize, and translate ambiguous or conflicting business needs from multiple senior stakeholders into clear, documented product, feature and technical requirements.

  • Facilitate structured prioritization and trade-off discussions among VP/SVP-level stakeholders, building consensus where interests diverge and making the final call when consensus isn't reached.

Feature Definition & Product Requirements

  • Define and document detailed product, feature and technical requirements, acceptance criteria, and success measures in partnership with UX, architecture, and engineering.

  • Own and continuously groom the product backlog and roadmap, ensuring features are sequenced by business value, dependency, and delivery feasibility.

  • Partner with Solution Architecture and Engineering to ensure feature designs are technically sound, scalable, and compliant with Pfizer's technology standards.

Product Lifecycle Management: Ideation to Scale

  • Lead products through the full lifecycle — discovery, experimentation, pilot, MVP, enterprise scale, and sustained operation — applying the appropriate governance rigor at each stage.

  • Define and track adoption, business value, and ROI metrics post-launch; use these to inform roadmap iteration and investment decisions.

  • Manage risk, compliance, and change-control considerations specific to Medical Affairs (data privacy, MLR/regulatory review, EU AI Act, HTA implications) throughout the product lifecycle.

Cross-Functional & Team Leadership

  • Direct the work of Product Managers, Engineers, UX Designers, and Program Delivery Leads supporting the product, without requiring formal reporting authority.

  • Represent the product in portfolio governance forums, providing status, risk, and prioritization recommendations to senior leadership.

  • Mentor and develop product talent within the broader Medical AI Acceleration and Delivery team.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

Candidate demonstrates a breadth of diverse leadership experiences and capabilities including: the ability to influence and collaborate with peers, develop and coach others, oversee and guide the work of other colleagues to achieve meaningful outcomes and create business impact.

  • 12+ years of progressive experience in product management/product ownership, with at least 4-5 years operating at a senior/director level owning products end-to-end.

  • Demonstrated experience translating enterprise or life-sciences business strategy into product roadmaps and requirements at scale.

  • Demonstrated experience translating business needs into AI based technical solutions that have successfully scaled globally.

  • Proven track record managing senior (VP/SVP-level) stakeholder relationships and driving prioritization decisions across competing interests.

  • Experience with agile/iterative delivery frameworks (SAFe, Scrum, or equivalent) and modern product management practice (discovery, experimentation, MVP, outcome-based roadmapping).

  • Pharmaceutical, life sciences, or other regulated-industry experience strongly preferred; Medical Affairs domain knowledge a significant plus.

  • Experience with AI/ML-enabled products and an understanding of responsible AI, data governance, and emerging AI regulation (e.g., EU AI Act) preferred.

  • Bachelor's degree required; MBA or advanced degree preferred.

Non-Standard Work Schedule, Travel, or Environment Requirements

Must be able to travel to Pfizer offices, vendor offices, and other team meeting locations when required.

Project work can sometimes be demanding and require work during off-hours to coordinate with global stakeholders.
